Travel Joy Hostels is extremely centrally located overlooking the river between Chelsea and Westminster meaning that most tourist London attractions and museums are within walking distance. The Houses of Parliament are a fifteen minute walk down river.

We have a 24 hour bus outside the door going every ten minutes during the day and every twenty minutes at night to Victoria Station, Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Soho, Oxford Street and Camden.

Pimlico Tube Station is a seven minute walk away being on the Victoria Line which runs south to north connecting to all the other lines running east to west and enjoys an extremely frequent service.

We do not have a 24 hour reception. However, we have a coded entry system and full CCTV.

Please summarize why you are great for educational visits.

Our location is our strongest point. We are the only London hostel to be located on the river which creates a unique atmosphere and means one can never get lost.

The vast majority of London tourist attractions are located in the Westminster/West End area and the Chelsea/Knightsbridge area. As we are located on the river between these two areas all these attractions are within walking distance. This is unique because most hostels are
located in the Kings Cross area of London or further out.

As such, we have arguably the best location in London for school groups.

We are agents with Evans & Evans who can organize excursions around London and the UK.

We are also agents for Encore and can book tickets for musicals and shows. We provide free tea/coffee and soft drinks to all guests at all times. We have a high specification coffee machine which makes cappuccinos, lattes and espressos as well as high quality bean coffee. This is a major cost saving to groups.

Continental breakfast is included in the price.

Is there anything you offer specifically for educational visits?

We can offer a history of the area which is also poster displayed throughout the hostel. We can also explain the location of all museums and give descriptions of what they exhibit.

Through Evans & Evans, we can book sightseeing and educational and entertainment trips.

Do you have a YouTube Video link regarding your venue?

Are you currently on Twitter or Facebook?

What size groups do they cater for?

We can cater for groups of up to 72 people and possibly a little more due to the fact that we work with a local Bed & Breakfast.

Please give information regarding room sizes and room facilities?

We have a mix of rooms which are very suitable for school groups.

We have one private twin ensuite room on the first floor; These have TV facilities and are very suitable for teachers.

We also work with an adjacent Bed & Breakfast which can provide additional private rooms if required.
The rest of our rooms are shared dorms which I list as follows:

Room 1. Six Bed Ensuite Dorm.
Room 2. Four Bed Ensuite Dorm.
Room 3. Six Bed Ensuite Dorm with large balcony overlooking the river.
Room 4. Eight Bed Double Ensuite with large balcony overlooking the river.
Room 5. Twelve bed dorm. Communal showers.
Room 6. Ten bed dorm. Communal showers.
Room 7. Six bed dorm. Communal showers.
Room 8. Ten bed dorm. Communal showers.
Room 9. Twelve bed dorm. Ensuite shower.

Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?

Yes. Visitors can take photos. There are no copyright restrictions.

How do you arrange a risk assessment?

Yes. Upon appointment or arrival, we can provide teachers with a full view of our Fire Compliance File which will include evidence of the following compliance:

1. Fire Risk Assessment.

2. Fire Log Book.

3. Fire alarm, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers maintenance contracts.

4. PAT testing.

5. Call Point testing.

6. Roll Call and Emergency Evacuation Plan.

Emergency Evacuation and Roll call are performed every six months. Call Point testing is performed on a weekly basis. In August 2010, we were inspected and passed by London Fire Brigade.

We have two fire escapes; rear and front with the assembly point at front of building.

We are very conscious of our responsibilities and are fully compliant.

What is the cost of the accommodation?

Prices vary according to the season, weekend and availability.

During off season, (October–February), prices range from £20 midweek to £25 at weekends for a dorm bed per night.

During High Season, (March–September), prices range from £25 to £30 per night.

Prices include free tea/coffee/soft drinks at all times, free Wi-Fi throughout the building, free sweets, free linen/towels and breakfast.

Does your Accommodation have a booking contact?

Yes. Senan Sexton.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes. We have first aid on site with a qualified first aider.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

We have an excellent restaurant which serves Thai, English and pizza menu from 5pm to 10 pm Monday to Friday and 1pm to 10pm Saturdays and Sundays. Please see our website: for menu details.

We can provide buffet style dinners for groups. Standard offers are bangers and mash, lasagna, burger and chips and chicken curry. However, the offering can be widened upon consultation with our chef Murray. The standard cost is circa £8.00 per meal.

We can also offer packed lunches which include a meat or vegetarian sandwich, fruit juice, crisps and an apple at a cost of £5.00.

We have a large ground floor area which serves as a bar and common room.

We have a projector which we can show movies or client videos on. There is Wi-Fi throughout the building and we also have a laptop for internet access, both services are for free.

Are there disabled facilities?

Unfortunately, we are not disabled friendly as we do not have a lift.

However, we have full disabled facilities at ground floor reception/bar area.

Is there anything else that you feel is important and want to include in your information?

It is important that teachers should be aware that we have a bar at ground floor. We have hosted many school groups and the presence of a bar has never been a problem. The bar area is our common room and has the feel of an internet chill out room rather than a bar.

It is illegal for us to sell alcohol to under 18’s. If we have school groups where there is a mix of under and over 18’s, we prefer to have a policy of no alcohol for the entire group. However, this is to be decided by the group leader.
