Why you are you a great place for educational visits?
Our exciting and welcoming centre set on the Blackwater Estuary has amazing views and a wide range of activities to suit all school groups.

Do you have the LOtC Quality Badge or any other accreditation such as AALA?
Essex Outdoors Mersea has achieved the LOtC Quality Badge as well as Adventure Mark accreditations.

What does a typical educational visit include?
A typical visit would include a full programme of activity with accommodation in either tents or cabins or our new state-of-the-art residential building catered by our kitchen which offers a varied and healthy menu to meet all dietary needs. Our friendly and supportive team are always on hand during the booking process and onsite.

What group sizes do you cater for?
10 - 500

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?
Information is provided prior to the visit and, upon arrival, we provide a welcome pack containing all relevant information on the visit as well as a full health and safety briefing for all children and staff.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?
All schools must discuss any requirements for photography videos etc. with our team prior to arrival with us.

What is your process for booking pre-arranged risk assessments?
We can supply any necessary risk assessments for our sites and activities as part of the visit planning process with us. If you are an Essex school or youth organisation subscribing to our Educational Visits service, this will be taken care of as part of your submission for the visit.

Does your venue have an education officer?
Essex Outdoors hosts the Educational visits team for Essex County Council – this is a subscription based service available for any Essex-based school or group. For further details please contact the Educational visits team on 01245 221022

What is the cost of the visit?
Costs for each visit will vary dependent on the package of activities, accommodation and catering options chosen. Single activities start at £9 per head for a group of 10 young people, full activity days start at £36 per head, and residential visits start at £260 for a 4 night stay. We offer 1 free leader place for each group of 10 young people participating. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and we’ll supply you with an individually tailored quote for your proposed visit.

Is specific clothing required for the trip?
We provide an information pack for you to give to your group prior to arrival containing kit lists specific to your visit, which will be dependent on activities and time of year.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?
All of our instructional team hold first aid qualifications and have been trained to high standards relevant to both paediatric and outdoor scenarios. There is always a duty first-aider available when groups are on site.

What are your disabled facilities?
Our Mersea centre is accessible to wheelchair users and includes specialist equipment, ramps, lifts and hoists where appropriate. We can accommodate users with a variety of special needs on many of our activities and are happy to discuss any specific requirements your group may have, prior to arrival with us.
