The Anvil is run by Anvil Arts, the largest performing arts organisation in Hampshire, serving a region which stretches across central southern England. Anvil Arts is known for its diverse programme that ranges from classical, rock, pop and jazz concerts to drama, comedy, dance and more.

For music students The Anvil, a concert hall with a capacity of about 1,400 seats and excellent acoustics, offers the opportunity to experience outstanding national and international orchestras in our International Concert Series. Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?


The Anvil presents a wide-ranging performing arts programme and offers opportunities for educational trips for all school ages and abilities across a wide range of subjects.  There is often a special rate for student groups available at performances relevant to schools and colleges. Group reservations can be held until up to one month before the performance date and there is no deposit required at the time of booking. The Anvil is easy to reach as it is very close to the Basingstoke train station. There is also a coach drop-off point at The Anvil.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

Dependant on the performance. Pre-performance talks might be available for some performances.
Backstage tours and familiarisation visits available. Please contact the Group Booking Assistant to arrange a visit.

Free leader ticket per 10 students and other group discounts available at selected performances.

International Concert Series: £10 per student and 1 free teacher ticket per 10 students

Do you have first aid on site?

All Duty Managers and other key staff are qualified first aiders.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

Drinks and snacks are available at the bar. If you plan to have your packed lunch at one of our venues please contact the Group Booking Assistant to see if we have facilities available on the specific day.  

Are there disabled facilities?

There are eight wheelchair spaces available in The Anvil.  The Circle level at The Anvil can be reached via a lift and accessible toilets are available on both floors.

The Anvil is equipped with infra-red hearing enhancement systems for use with headsets or portable induction loops available from the stewards’ point.

Please let us know at the time of booking if any of your group members have specific access needs so that we can ensure you have suitable seats and can make arrangements if necessary.

What are your opening days and hours?

Box Office Opening Times:

The Anvil is open Monday – Saturday 10am to 6pm (excluding Bank Holidays) and later on performance evenings.

The Haymarket opens 1 hour before every performance and on Saturday 10am to 2pm.
