Jimmy has always been passionate about nature and farming. By the time he was 16, he was the youngest ever Assistant Entomologist at the Mole Hall Wildlife Park in Walden. After gaining a degree in Zoology, Jimmy worked at the Entomology Department at London’s Natural History Museum before moving on to Coventry University where he researched for a Doctorate in Entomology, set up an insect laboratory and taught Animal Ecology and Animal Philosophy to undergraduate students.

But by 2003, Jimmy decided it was time to make his dream of living the good life a reality. He left London and without any experience or knowledge of farming, took on a leasehold of a 100 acre farm near Ipswich in Suffolk. Jimmy’s roller coaster journey to change this derelict farm into a rare breed pig farm was followed in a BBC2 series called ‘Jimmy’s Farm’.

The Herb Garden

The Herb Garden is where it all began for the ‘Gardens at Jimmy’s Farm.’  Caela worked tirelessly to transform the centuries old, derelict cattle yard into an incredibly imaginitive and peaceful garden.  Here you can explore and relax amongst a wonderful world of aromas, herbs and ornamental plants.   You can kick back with a Cream Tea, explore the garden or simply gaze at fields of rare breed animals in this remarkably tranquil setting.

Vegetable Garden

Caela’s Vegetable Garden started life as the original cow paddock where the dairy cows would emerge after milking.  This has provided it with years of natural farmyard manure which has made it a prime location to situate Caela’s Organic Vegetable Garden.

Darwin’s Garden

The garden is designed to reflect Jimmy’s own interest in Charles Darwin.  Jimmy became even more interested in Darwin  when recently filming a new BBC programme all about Darwin that will be aired on BBC2 in 2009.  He was determined to bring some of his findings back to the farm!
