The New Theatre offers a wide range of touring theatre productions including educational children’s shows, musicals, ballet, opera and music plus many more.

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

Our in-house groups team can guide you through your booking from recommending seats and reserving tickets while you collect in the money, to providing seating plans, risk assessments, advice on parking and drop-off points. We are a traditional theatre and pupils can feel the history of the building as well as enjoying the performances on stage. We can also offer guided tours of the venue. These can sometimes include a unique view of the visiting companies set. Please see below for more information.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

Our groups team will advise you on the best time to arrive – when the doors will open so that you can take your seats straight away. Our friendly front of house team will show you to your seats and guide you around the building. Then they will enjoy a fantastic show!

What size groups do they cater for?

Usually, group rates start from 10 or more people, but this can vary from show to show. Always give us a call and we will see what we can do for you. Some shows may not have a specific groups discount. However you can still save money as booking for groups 10+ with the group department will avoid booking fees for the majority of shows.

What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit?

Education packs are occasionally available depending on the show. These are produced by the visiting company, not by the theatre, but we will advise you on what is available.

Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?

We are happy for photographs to be taken of the theatre before and after a show, but no photography is permitted during performances.

How do you arrange a risk assessment?

Risk assessments are available from our groups team on request.

What are the contact details for their education officer?

We don’t have an education officer, but if our Groups team can not answer your question directly, they will know someone who can!

What does it cost?

Ticket prices are different for every production. Discounts are available on many of our shows, but these vary from show to show. Our groups team will be able to advise you.

Is specific clothing required?

No, but it is useful for pupils to be dressed in school uniform when on a school trip, so that they can be identified easily when there are numerous school groups in the building.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes, there are always first-aid trained staff on site.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

We have a small shop selling soft drinks, sweets, popcorn, ice cream. Drinks and ice creams can be pre-ordered prior to your visit for ease. Just ask at the time of booking your tickets.

Are there disabled facilities?

The foyer and box office are accessible to wheelchair users from the street.  We have space for 4 wheelchairs with 5 companion spaces. These are situated at the rear of the stalls level and accessed from the main foyer via a lift.  The circle and balcony levels are only accessible by stairs.

What are your opening days and hours?

Performance times vary from show to show.

Box Office opens from 10am – 5pm Monday – Saturday (On performance days the box office will remain open until 30 minutes after the show commences).

The Groups telephone line is available Monday -Friday from 9.30am-6pm. To make a booking/ reservation or for more information, please call the Groups Team on 0844 871 3040. If they are unavailable, please leave a message and they will try to get back to you as soon as possible. Alternatively, please email and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

Is there anything else that you feel is important and want to include in your information?

There will be special deals available for most shows that run for a week or more. Please contact who will be able to advise you further.
