Letton Hall was the first domestic commission for the famous architect Sir John Soane. It is a large imposing country house, set in 10 acres of wooded grounds and surrounded by farm and parkland.
Letton offers two distinct facilities, the Main Hall and the stable block – Dolphin Court, or larger groups can hire both facilities together. We offer comfortable and secure accommodation and a great base for either on-site activity or for making day trips to a wide range of attractions in the surrounding area.

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

As well as the historic nature of the house and the beauty of its surroundings, Letton Hall can offer a range of easily tailored on-site activities to amuse and educate, including a History Tour, team building and problem solving, outdoor activities such as den building and camp fires and ample play and sports areas.  For those old enough we can offer the use of our go-kart track!

Just a short walk away is the original freshwater spring that once provided all of Letton Hall’s water; complete with the remains of four different pumping methods, it provides a remarkable insight into the history and social life of the original residents of the hall and how the industrial revolution changed our lives.

Art, dance, archery and air-gun shooting and Circus skills are all activities that we can offer with outside providers.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

All activities are tailored to the requirements of the group and we are happy to discuss how we can help you to address Key Stage requirements.

Are you currently on Twitter or Facebook?

What size groups do they cater for?

There is no minimum number in term time – and we can accommodate groups up to 130 in number.  We will only ever allocate one group to a facility.  The Main Hall accommodates up to 80 and Dolphin Court 55 people.

What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit?

We provide all of the materials needed for on-site activities such as the orienteering course, and can provide sheets to accompany a visit to the Spring House.

Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?

There are no restrictions on photography or video of your own activity on our premises – and we are happy for these to be used in your school websites or newsletters.

How do you arrange a risk assessment?

Letton Hall has comprehensive risk assessments in place for the buildings and facilities. Risk assessments can be provided on request for specific activities and we can provide a general risk assessment for the site. Teachers bringing groups to Letton Hall are welcome in advance to conduct their own assessments if required - please contact us for details. We conduct regular checks of our fire alarms and safety according to guidelines.

What does it cost?

Prices for 2014 range from £10.50 - £12.50 per pupil for each 24 hour period if you are a self- catered group. Catered prices range from £23.50 – £28.50 for 24 hours. These prices depend on the venue in use and the ages of the pupils. Adult prices are a little higher, but we make a special offer of one free adult place with every 15 pupils. We are always happy to discuss costs with you.

Is specific clothing required?

We recommend that our guests bring good outdoor shoes or wellingtons, old clothes for outdoor activity and waterproofs for inclement weather. No specialist clothing is required.

Do you have first aid on site?

Although we have First Aid stations in all of our facilities, we advise all groups to bring their own first aid and have a nominated first aider.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

Letton Hall is equipped with two good kitchens and it is possible to self-cater or alternatively we can cater for you.  We serve good, home-cooked food, prepared by our own team on site.
Packed lunches can be prepared for groups taking trips out. The cost of meals is built into the catered tariff. We also have a small shop, selling a range of ‘tuck’ items and a small selection of gifts and books.
There are plenty of large rooms for eating and gathering.  Wi-fi is available in both venues.

Are there disabled facilities?

We have a small amount of facilities for the disabled, but the accommodation is not suitable for groups with a significant number of members with a disability and wheelchair access can be difficult in some areas. There are a small number of ground floor bedroom and accessible bathroom facilities – please call to discuss this. There are stairlifts enabling access to the main floor of the Hall.

What are your opening days and hours?

Our offices are open 9-5 during the working week, but duty staff are always on site.

Do you have any testimonials from previous customers who have visited you on an educational visit?

These are genuine testimonials from groups and children who have visited Letton Hall…

'Letton Hall has been the base for our Year 5 residential for many years now.  It is a truly wonderful place where our children, many of whom come from the inner city, can experience a huge range of activities within a friendly and secure environment with a real 'home from home' ethos.
The children are welcomed with open arms by the staff at Letton Hall.  They go above and beyond to help make our stay as enjoyable as possible.  The huge beautiful grounds with adventure playground, walled garden and games room means the children have plenty of different areas to explore safely.
The food at Letton is legendary at our school as 'delicious'.  It is all home cooked and eaten with gusto by our children.  Roast dinners, treacle tart, a selection of packed lunches and a never ending supply of baked biscuits are just a few of the delights the staff at Letton prepare.
The surrounding area provides many visits such as Gressenhall Workhouse, Ecotec, lovely walks and of course a day at the beach.  Without a doubt our children would be happy and perfectly content partaking in their own adventures within the grounds such as bonfires, torch walks and a tour around Letton Hall itself.
The rooms and bathrooms are spotless and well equipped, our children refer to them as the 'hotel'.  Without a doubt Year 5 at Walter Halls would not be the same without our visit to Letton Hall.  For us it is like returning to visit old friends, safe in the knowledge that our children will be truly valued as individuals and treated with pure kindness.
Thank you Letton!

"As I walked up the grand staircase I felt as if I was a Victorian Lady"

" You were all so kind and welcoming; the contrast between karting, archery and the history tour was brilliant.  It was excellent to see such different activities engaging and inspiring the children.  You made us feel as if ensuring we had the very best experience was top of your own wishes.
Thank you."

" I felt like royalty and you really did make me feel at home"

"All the meals were scrumptious and delicious but the best dinner of all was the roast dinner."
