Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

Cumulus Outdoors provides the highest standards of safety and quality instruction from fully qualified, experienced and mature guides.

Swanage and Purbeck lie on the south coast of Dorset and have stunning landscapes in all seasons.

The area is the eastern gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site – walk along the South West Coast Path and pass the magnificent Old Harry Rocks, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.

Being surrounded on three sides by sea water, coastal Purbeck boasts some of the best sea views and spectacular scenery along the whole of the south coast.

Due to the outstanding geology and palaeontology, the Dorset (and East Devon) coastline has been listed as a Natural World Heritage Site and Jurassic Coastline.   Above Swanage to the south lies Durlston Country Park, 263 acres of beautiful countryside overlooking Purbeck's Marine Research Area and from where you can walk round The Lighthouse and further along the South West Coast Path to Dancing Ledge, Winspit, Seacombe and St Aldhems Head. All of these have footpath routes back inland to both Langton Matravers, Worth Matravers and Kingston.

Standing in the heart of Purbeck is the picturesque village of Corfe with its dramatic ruins of a medieval Castle that commands the strategic gap in the Purbeck Ridge. Now run by the National Trust, the castle, once the most fortified in all England, was systematically destroyed after the Civil War. From this vantage point, you can enjoy stunning views across the Purbeck landscape to the sea.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

A programme based on the preferences of the particular group will be created. This can vary from a simple selection of one or more activities to a more ambitious programme involving overnight stays in modern hammocks at our Bush craft site or on Brownsea Island.

We would be happy to tailor the programme to the ages of the pupils, your expectations and your budget.

Do you have any testimonials from previous customers who have visited you on an educational visit?

“I have had dealings with this company providing bushcraft and camping facilities for young people in Dorset. It is always a worry about the care that is given to children away from home, and this is one company with proper family values. You get a real sense that you can trust them as they respond at a very human level, whilst maintaining a totally professional approach. Bravo Cumulus, I'm impressed!”

“Thank you so much for providing us with such a fantastic day!  Russell and the team were brilliant and by the end of the day even the most entrenched ‘haters’ of outdoor activities actually admitted that it had been fun.  It was particularly helped too, by the beautiful weather.   It was so interesting watching the different ways in which the teams approached the tasks, the leadership and the teamwork (or not, on occasion!) – and some brilliant challenges!”   Sherborne School

“We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and greatly appreciated the time that you and the rest of the team took in organising such a fantastic weekend. I was impressed with the Coasteering, in particular the professionalism of the staff and their ability to control and care for the boys in some rather challenging conditions. The ratios used were ideal; the use of the send and receive strategy to coordinate the boys entering into the water was reassuring and, I thought, delivered exceptionally well by the staff team. I would not want to run a Coasteering trip for this age group of boys in the future if you did not insist on this supervision strategy. I was also impressed with the manner that your staff engaged with our boys to create a fun, challenging and supportive environment.”

“Cumulus Outdoors ran a week long canoe and camp expedition along the River Wye for us last year and will be doing the same this year. The organisation and equipment was second to none and the group were in the very capable hands of the two professional guides. I would have no hesitation in recommending them, we’re now planning an additional Mountain Expedition and a Coastal Programme with Cumulus.”
