Description

Located in the New Forest National Park, Avon Tyrrell, the UK Youth Outdoor Activity Centre is an established site offering outdoor learning opportunities through an extensive range of adventure and field studies activities that are linked to the National Curriculum and are independently quality assured.

Our Grade I listed calendar house offers full board accommodation and combines historic charm with modern facilities such as key coded locks, Wi-Fi and separate leaders rooms. We also offer accommodation in our lodges and have an on call person available at all times when the offices are closed.

Whether you enjoy our adventure, environmental activities or a mixture of both, all our sessions are carefully reviewed by trained staff to ensure that individuals experience outdoor learning and can take something away from their visit, as well as have a brilliant session/stay. With different package options individually tailored to meet the demands of your group, our outdoor learning opportunities contribute significantly to raising standards and improving student’s personal, social and emotional development.

To help support your visit you are also able to take part in our Inspiration Award scheme or New Forest School Programme.

Our onsite Inspiration Award offers young people the chance to recognize their achievements and receive a certificate on completion of their stay.  This award scheme is free of charge and details of this can be found on our website http://www.avontyrrell.org.uk

We also have staff trained to offer Forest School programmes.  These sessions encourage young people to develop life skills through outdoor learning.  It gives them freedom to experience and enjoy the outdoors by doing an amazing selection of activities, including:  fire lighting, forest jewellery, tool work, cooking and shelter building.

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

As part of the UK Youth national charity supporting young people is always at the forefront of what we do. Guiding students to experience, learn and develop to ensure we can provide people with the same opportunities. All of our sessions are linked to the National Curriculum and quality assured by Learning Outside the Classroom. Our Inspiration Awards and Forest Schools programmes give schools something different to work with and help students develop life skills through outdoor learning with the freedom to experience. With great packages for schools, Avon Tyrrell is the perfect location for truly learning outside the classroom.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

With such a diverse range of options at Avon Tyrrell we can provide packages to accommodate day visits, week residentials or short study breaks. Whatever your groups needs, we can advise you on the best educational packages. Typically residentials include a 4 night, full board accommodation in our Grade I listed house with either a Birch, a Chestnut or an Oak activity package. Activities are linked to the Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 National Curriculum so from this we can add extras such as our inspiration award or Forest Schools programme and really tailor a package to meet your groups’ aims and objectives.

Do you have any testimonials from previous customers who have visited you on an educational visit?

“Thank you so much for our recent visit with the year 6 pupils. The children have been very chatty and seemed to have all enjoyed varied and different aspects of our visit. Our aim was to work on teamwork and listening and we have noticed how with the help of your staff, the children’s confidence has grown.

“Thank you – we thoroughly enjoyed the week and the girls learnt so much about Science, teamwork and personal challenge. The week was perfectly balanced and I am very grateful for all of your time spent organising beforehand. All of the instructors were great and pitched the activities just right; educationally it was spot-on.”

“The house was huge and there was even a pool table, football and ping pong. Also the climbing and high ropes, Joe you helped me very much because I am really nervous of heights. It was so much fun on the night walk and I loved the magic with the sugar cubes and the envelope.”

“I would like to say thank you for the incredible stay we had at the Avon Tyrrell house. Previously our School has gone to the Isle of Wight, so it was nice to have somewhere closer to home! We are incredibly grateful for all the delicious food you served us.”

“The house and grounds still continue to improve and they are such a blessing to us and the other schools that use the facilities. We feel so blessed to be able to continue to use Avon Tyrell in this way and hope we can continue to do so in the future. As always all credit to your staff they were simply wonderful and a credit to UK Youth”
