Description

We provide interactive day long workshops, teaching the history of the Viking age in the most memorable way. The majority of our day is focused on being hands on, looking at weaponry etc and Q&A sessions, rather than just wordy educational chats, that may not be absorbed. We finish up with a battle and a quiz. Children will never have a chance to be bored during the day!

Please summarize why you are great to support learning.
We always really enjoy seeing the enthusiasm and excitement from the children and the results of our end of day quiz really show the way this assists learning. Nearly always full marks!

We have a real passion for Viking History, which we hope shows.

What does a typical school workshop visit include?
A typical day plan is below. We change this around depending on numbers and break and lunch durations. However, this should give you a good guide.

  1. Introduce Bjorn and explain back story and how he arrived at the school today, which will include a brief Viking history and a summary of what will be happening during the day.
  2. Write your name in runes / Choose a Viking name. Certificate of achievement to Bjorn’s school of Vikings.
  3. Raiding / Navigating talk
  4. Clothes display & talk. Clothes try on.
  5. Q&A
  6. Viking home chat - choose a Viking job
  7. Food display, guess which are the authentic Viking foods / Q&A
  8. Try using a quern stone milling stone to grind your grain, look at some Viking bread. Let’s play some Viking board games
  9. Battle talk
  10. Weaponry display and then into battle with shields & spears (safety ones of course) for children and the children form a shield wall all call battle cries
  11. Multiple choice quiz to check everything has been taken in. We always see top marks, with this fun way of learning!
  12. Bjorn’s farewell/ pictures

We provide a certificate of achievement to each pupil for participating in the day, which they take away, where they choose a Viking name and job and learn to write in runes, along with a runes worksheet. We also provide an end of day quiz that is taken away.

We have lots of useful worksheets we are happy to provide for after workshop in class use. Just ask.
