Exactly what does your venue offer to educational visits?

We have an extensive education programme, aligned with the Curriculum for Excellence, that offers presenter-led learning activities for a range of STEM topics and education levels. Visits include access to over 350 exhibits and a huge choice of interactive experiences. GSC can also visit schools with Bodyworks On Tour.

Live Science Shows P4-S2

Through audience interaction and breathtaking demos, pupils can journey through the human body, learn about space flight or investigate gravity and friction.

Planetarium N1-S6

Our flagship Planetarium lets pupils leave Earth behind, to travel through the solar system and beyond. School can choose from a range of fulldome films or live astronomer-led shows.

Workshops N1-P7

Our Early Years workshops engage curious young minds through fun, hands-on activities. Workshops for older pupils encourage small groups to work together to solve a practical challenge in a laboratory setting.

My World of Work Live! P7 – S3

Skills Development Scotland’s interactive exhibits and activities aim to spark young people’s interest in STEM careers. Every My World of Work Live! experience focuses on designing, making and testing using the latest technology to engage and inspire.

Masterclasses S4-S6

Give your pupils the opportunity to gain practical lab experience from practising scientists or explore a topic in more depth by engaging with industry experts.

IMAX Films P4-S4

Cineworld and Glasgow Science Centre offer awe-inspiring educational films on Scotland’s biggest screen. Explore the wonders of planet Earth to gain a better understanding of our world, its wildlife and how we affect our environment.

Expert Events P1-S6

Our themed events throughout the year bring pupils together with researchers and industry professionals. They can take part in hands-on activities and quiz experts on their work and career path.

On Tour (P1–S4)

Our Bodyworks on Tour team travels the length and breadth of Scotland and beyond to bring interactive exhibits, activities and shows to your school. This health and wellbeing programme is supported by GlaxoSmithKline.

Why you are you a great place for educational visits?

We help young people learn about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in an engaging and hands on way that cannot be replicated in a school environment. Science is all around us and we aim to bring that to life leaving the imagination to wonder with curiosity and a desire to learn more.

Do you have the LOtC Quality Badge or any other accreditation such as AALA?

We are in the process of renewing our LOtC Quality Badge.

What does a typical educational visit include?

We can tailor our experiences to meet the needs of your group by way of age, topic area and group size. Our experiences cover visits to the Science Mall (hundreds of hands on exhibits on a range of topics) and a choice of presenter-led shows, workshops or films.

What group sizes do you cater for?

We cater for small groups to full schools!

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?

We develop some teacher resources for both pre and post visit and these are all available on our website. We also provide all the relevant practical information for teachers before visiting to help make the visit as smooth as possible.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?

Yes – however if this is likely it would be greatly appreciated if you could let us know beforehand as we have signs to put up around the centre to let other visitors know this is happening.

What is your process for booking pre arranged risk assessments?

A member of staff gives a short health and safety briefing to pupils and teachers on arrival.

Does your venue have an education officer?

We have a Science Learning Manager.

What is the cost of the visit?

Visits start at £4 per child but vary dependent on size and activity type. Please don’t hesitate to contact us about various subsidies and travel grants which could be available to you and your group.

Is specific clothing required for the trip?

Comfortable clothing or school uniform is useful – and anything to identify your group (as often we’ll have various groups in GSC at once).

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?

We have qualified first aiders on site.

Please list facilities available.

Shop, café, dining area, packed lunch area (this will be discussed with you when you make your booking). The shop has a variety of gifts and ‘pocket money’ type items starting at under £1.00
