Description

Rockstar Climbing is a premier indoor climbing centre in the heart of Swindon and is Wiltshire’s only dedicated venue for climbing and bouldering. The centre boasts over 800 sqm of climbing with surfaces reaching up to 10m in height.

Rockstar Climbing has an extensive Junior, Youth and Adult programme ranging from Taster Sessions, Family Climbing Sessions, Birthday Parties, Junior Climbing Clubs, Adult Beginners & Improvers Courses and Corporate Sessions. We also have casual climbing sessions available too for those that have some climbing experience and do not require an instructed session.

Our Junior and Youth programmes also extend to supporting primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities too and we are an awarding centre for the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS). NICAS is an incredible scheme which allows our climbing coaches to teach juniors and teens from beginners through to advanced climbers. NICAS is GCSE PE and Duke of Edinburgh accredited and recognized by most examining boards in the UK as well as Edexcel. We also offer school taster days, sports week activities, take-over days and after school climbing clubs for extracurricular options.

Rockstar also boasts a superb café offering freshly ground coffee and quality teas, fruit smoothies, snacks and hot food. We also have free WiFi too.

Our professional climbing instructors and coaches are Nationally qualified and are all active outdoor climbers who also compete regularly at National level.

Why you are you a great place for educational visits?
Our Junior and Youth programmes extend to supporting primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities too and we are an awarding centre for the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS).

We also offer fun Taster Sessions for educational visits where sessions can be tailored based on the age range of the participants.

Do you have the LOtC Quality Badge or any other accreditation such as AALA?
We are an awarding centre for the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) and members of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) as well as the Association of British Climbing Walls (ABC).

What does a typical educational visit include?
We offer sessions ranging from 1 hour in duration to full activity days. Our sessions range from being suitable for 5 years old up to and including teens and young adults at College and University.

Our Climbing Taster Sessions are often between 60 and 90 minutes in duration. Students working towards NICAS or GCSE PE sessions range from 90 minutes per session through to between 2 to 4 hours per session depending on the session format.

We aim to tailor most of our sessions to the requirements of the school and students so please do contact us for more information on how we can help.

What group sizes do you cater for?
Our group sizes range from 1-to-1 personal coaching through to school take-over days with large numbers of students. Our average individual group size is between 6 and 18 students but we can be flexible depending on the group requirement.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?
We do not permit phones to be taken into the climbing area by children, however, parents or teachers can take photos of sessions providing the photos only show children in their own sessions.

What is your process for booking pre arranged risk assessments?
Booking for school sessions is usually confirmed over the phone or email once we have discussed the requirements for the session(s) and formulated a session plan. We can provide full risk assessments plus copies of our insurance, DBS and any other information that may be required by the school.

Does your venue have an education officer?
Rockstar’s educational officer is Mike Aston. He is contactable via phone 01793 824 177 or via email at mike@rockstarclimbing.co.uk

What is the cost of the visit?
Naturally costs for sessions vary depending on the type of session, number of participants and the duration of the session. Our school sessions are discounted automatically and we work hard to make all our sessions as accessible as possible for schools and teachers. We always discuss the aims and requirements for each of our school sessions to ensure we create the right session plan, however, session prices as a general rule range from between £4.50 to £8 per student.

Is specific clothing required for the trip?
Lose fitting clothing or sports/gym attire is recommended for climbing sessions. Shorts or cycling shorts are fine providing they are not too short. Jeans, skirts or dresses are not suitable. Trainers are acceptable footwear providing they are clean and free from mud, however, climbing shoes are available at the centre.

Children with long hair should bring hair bands with them so hair can be tied up. All jewelry must be removed before the start of the session.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?
We always have at least one qualified First Aider on duty at all times (often more).

Do you have any testimonials?
Thanks so much for our school session, the students really did get so much out of it. When we left one of the students said it was the best thing he had ever done! Helen (school taster session)

I just wanted to email to express how impressed we were with yourself and the team at the climbing centre for our school take-over day. Your professionalism was excellent but more importantly the rapport you built with the children was outstanding.

All the instructors were really good with the children. However, that is not to detract from any of the other staff members as they were all brilliant and I saw lots of children being put at ease by their friendly manner.
All in all we had an excellent time at the centre and the children were talking about it for the rest of the day which is testament to how good you and your team are. Matt (school take-over day)
