Set into the hillside of the stunning Pentland Hills Regional Park, Midlothian Snowsports Centre, Hillend offers a range of activities including skiing, snowboarding, tubing or chairlift rides, providing quality PE and meeting some of the significant aspects of learning within the Curriculum for Excellence. There are also a number of walking trails in the surrounding area. The centre has its own café with outdoor terrace or for more formal teaching sessions we have three conference rooms available to pre book.

Why you are you a great place for educational visits?
Other than skill acquisition, pupils will interact socially whilst working in this unique outdoor environment.

What does a typical educational visit include?
We tailor make activity days depending on the request. Ski and snowboard lessons supplemented with an afternoon session of tubing are our most popular product.

What group sizes do you cater for?
We can accommodate groups of up to 150 pupils if activities are staggered.

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?
The children receive a ski or snowboard certificate if attending a 4-6 week course.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?
No, Midlothian council operates a no photography policy

What is the cost of the visit?
The costs vary. A junior tubing ticket is priced at £8.20 per hour. Ski or snowboard lessons start at £8.00 per 1.5hr session or full day at £19.80 for a minimum of 10 in a ski group or 8 in a snowboard. We provide one free ticket per group for the supervising teacher/adult.

Is specific clothing required for the trip?
We provide all equipment including helmets.
Pupils must have their arms and legs covered and wear gloves. We are an outdoor centre and children must dress appropriately for the weather, we recommend bring a waterproof jacket and pupils should bring sun cream and a bottle of water through the summer months.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?
We provide a qualified first aider.

Café 360 can provide hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. Vending machines are also available. Meeting rooms can be pre booked for the children to eat their packed lunches. Lockers are available for 20p.

What are your disabled facilities?
We can cater for disabled users. We have a bi ski (sit ski) that can be pre booked.

What are your opening days and hours?
We are open from 09.30 – 21.00 (Monday – Friday) and 09.30 – 19.00 (Saturday and Sundays) through term time. Opening hours vary through the school holidays.
