Portland Outdoor Centre is based in an old Victorian Hotel overlooking Portland Harbour. Full of character, Portland Outdoor Centre provides the perfect fully catered residential base to explore Portland, the Jurassic Coast and Chesil Beach. With miles of dramatic sea cliff coastline and quarries, along with the sheltered harbour Portland provides the perfect backdrop for outdoor activities such as climbing, coasteering and canoeing.

With accommodation for up to 70 people on the first and second floors and classroom, social and dining space on the ground floor Portland Outdoor Centre is set up as a base for both field studies and residential outdoor activity programmes.

Portland Outdoor Centre is now taking bookings for the 2018 season after great success last year. It has a sister centre Brenscombe Outdoor Centre near Swanage that has been successfully hosting residential school trips since 1992.

The rooms are all large with high ceilings. Most of the rooms sleep six in three bunk beds. Some rooms are ensuite other share communal bathrooms.

What is your process for booking pre arranged risk assessments?
Our accommodation and outdoor activities are risk assessed. We welcome teachers to arrange a pre-visit to help them with their risk assessments.

There is good communal space on the ground floor and some outside space too. The communal space is used flexibly depending on the needs of the group. within this we have:

Outdoor activities on offer include:
Climbing and abseiling on the sea cliffs and quarries of Portland
Canoeing, Big Canoeing (in 10m long canoes that can carry 12 people), Kayaking, Raft Building, Coasteering, Weaseling, Team games and problem solving.
