Description

Our STEM workshops are designed with children and accessible science in mind. That, plus the thrill of indoor skydiving allows children to become an integral part of an interactive science exhibit, and feel first-hand, the effects of force on their body, which is an inspirational and comprehensive life and learning experience. We can't think of a better way to bring the theory of science to life and prove beyond all doubt that Flying pupils + Forces in action = Fun with physics²

Why you are you a great place for educational visits?
Imagine a wind tunnel that could be used for testing the aerodynamics of an F1 racing car, turn it upright, step into the airflow and you are skydiving. Now imagine using this to demonstrate the science behind wind tunnel technology, human flight and skydiving in a fun and friendly environment. iFLY STEM workshops use iFLY’s unique vertical wind tunnel facility to make STEM exciting, relevant and accessible to all students. Get in touch, we guarantee you’ll have a blast!

Do you have the LOtC Quality Badge or any other accreditation such as AALA?

What does a typical educational visit include?
Key stage 1-2
Wind Workshop is a one hour workshop that offers a unique hands on experience with the emphasis on fun! Classes are lead by Professor iFLY who will take the children through interactive demonstrations to show the basics of force and how a wind tunnel works, before setting them interesting, practical, wind based challenges that encourage time management, problem solving and working in a team. To be sure the workshop finishes on a high, the children will then have two amazing flights in our super-safe wind tunnel, which is the equivalent of three real tandem skydives from 12,000ft! What better way to bring theory to life and, above all, show how simple and fun science can be.

Key stage 3-4
Physics of Flight is a one hour workshop that offers a unique opportunity to apply physics theory from the classroom to the live workings of a vertical wind tunnel. The result: fresh inspiration and enthusiasm for the subject! Each student will experience a combination of video, verbal and action based learning. This is based around Felix Baumgartners then recording breaking jump from the stratosphere and the physics of his decent (including terminal velocity, drag and surface area), followed by the engineering and physics behind the working of our wind tunnels. The highlight of the visit is, of course, two flights in the wind tunnel, equivalent to almost three real tandem skydives from 12,000 feet!

What group sizes do you cater for?

Do you have any testimonials from previous schools we can include?
"Kids were 'buzzing' on the way home and still were by home time on Friday. Thank you for the day. The workshop was spot on for our needs - it challenged yet enabled all to participate and succeed. Your manner with the children was fantastic also. Great to have space to leave bags etc and the organisation of the workshop, lunch, flight briefing and actual flight were all superb. It was an excellent opportunity for our students, one which they will not forget in a hurry!"

“I just wanted to be in touch to say thank you for your lovely email and for the experience the children enjoyed a couple of weeks ago. They loved every minute and it is clear from the work we have been doing postenrichment week, that

iFLY was a huge hit. It was fantastic to see them engaging in the workshop, working as a team, supporting each other and, for some, facing fears. All the children and teachers commented on the workshop and how great you were with the children.

All in all a very successful and enjoyable day. Something we will no doubt be repeating in the future. Special thanks to you Mike for making the booking, welcoming and activities go so smoothly and the promptness of replies, organisation and day were stress free and very enjoyable.”

“Firstly can I say how much of a fantastic time we all had during our visit to iFly, the children came out absolutely loving it, one even commented “it was the best day of his life”. With regards to the staff, they could not have been any more professional in my opinion, they were courteous and really helped the children to relax and also made it “FUN”, you have a fantastic team working with you and we look forward to coming again in the future.”

“Just wanted to thank you all for our school visit yesterday, we had a fantastic day! Every single person, staff and students, thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are keen to visit again. The ease of organisation and the smooth running of the day was superb but most of
all the helpful, friendly staff made it an unforgettable trip! Bringing Science alive and forces at its very best!! Many thanks again to you all, hope to see you again next year.”

“Everyone had a great day. The day was well organised and I would recommend other school groups experience science learning in this way. Our visit will certainly continue to be talked about for some time. Thank you so much.”
