OPEN's Schools enrichment programme is ideal for pupils who are in transition, finding it difficult to engage in school and need some extra support to develop their confidence and self-esteem or for celebration events.

Following the OPEN Youth Trust's core values ‘passion, respect, community, diversity and inspiration’ OPEN’s aims are to provide diverse and innovative ways to engage young people our Enrichment Activities for Schools underpin all of the Trust's work with young people.

We are able to provide exciting opportunities for children and young people to develop their skill set, increase their confidence and make many new friends with a longer term aim of making a positive difference to their lives and careers.

These activities are accessible to children and young people of varying ages, abilities and backgrounds and seek to engage children and young people in a variety of positive activities within the fields of:

Arts and media
• Sports and fitness
• Health and wellbeing
• Dance and performing arts
• Education and training
• Employability and volunteering

OPEN was established in 2005 to provide opportunities for young people in Norfolk, including those who are most disadvantaged, with the longer term aim of making a positive difference to their lives.

The OPEN Youth Trust (OPEN) is a charity based in Norwich which relies on grant funding and donations from trusts, companies and individuals to raise the funds needed to support our work with young people. Any penny of profit made from educational visits will go straight back into the charities work.

The charity, based in the heart of Norwich, is also home to a multi-purpose venue which provides live music and venue hire for conferences rooms, meetings and events as well as secure storage through CLOSED.

The profit from these commercial activities enables the charity to offer a diverse range of different activities, most of which are free to attend, for young people aged 7 – 25.

OPEN Youth Venue has a range of delivery spaces available for school visits including a large commercial kitchen, the tallest climbing wall in East Anglia, a fully equipped dance studio and a high tech recording studio. This enables us to offer students a vast range of positive activities at a fantastic price.

Why you are you a great place for educational visits?

OPEN has been working with young people for over 10 years. We offer high quality non-formal learning, helping young people through the difficult transitional years towards adulthood. We offer opportunities outside school to raise sights and broaden horizons. Young people respond well to experiential life-skills learning which makes them participants in well-crafted simulation.

Young people who access OPEN often experience some of the following disadvantages - mental health issues, learning difficulties, disability, rural isolation, substance misuse, youth offending, low confidence, poor self-esteem and aspirations, low income and unemployment.

OPEN staff are highly experienced in managing the above issues and can adapt their delivery style to best meet the needs of young people. OPEN’s activity days, courses and enrichment sessions are a fantastic tool to build students confidence, self esteem, team building and peer networks. School staff can be confident that through attending sessions at OPEN students will be safe, have fun and learn a whole host of new skills.

Do you have the LOtC Quality Badge or any other accreditation such as AALA?
OPEN has an ‘Ambition quality’ Kite mark. OPEN is also an approved NICAS, Arts Award and ASDAN Centre, and we are part of Children’s University. We are currently in the process of applying for a LOcC Quality Badge and have all insurances in place to deliver learning outside the classroom provision.

What does a typical educational visit include?
OPEN are flexible in their approach to ensure the service on offer is appropriate to the needs of your students. Many of the activities on offer will fit well alongside the curriculum such as drama sessions to explore themes that the students are studying, or comic book making that can support students reading and writing, climbing to promote discipline and self-control, dance sessions to promote health and fitness, multi-games to support team work skills and much more.

We can even support students to gain an accreditation such as Arts, ASDAN or Norfolk Youth Awards.

Becky Arnold Assistant Principle at Wymondham College

“Our students who engaged in the Enrichment day loved it. The day was very well organised and all the activity leaders were friendly and enthusiastic. The team manipulated the day to ensure that all our needs were met and worked with us to advise how best to meet our objectives. The facilities were excellent and the space motivational. Several students after the day have since returned to Open to participate in activities.”

Angela Younger- Assistant Head- Hall School Norwich

“Many of the students at Hall school have benefited from the services offered by OPEN, both in school and at the Bank Plain Centre.

The After School sports club, which is our latest project in conjunction with OPEN has been a resounding success. We have been able to offer places pupils of all ages and with a wide range of physical, medical, behavioural and medical needs. OPEN has supported the project by providing a dance coach for these sessions which has enabled us to run the sessions on the school site. This flexibility has been very much appreciated by our parents and pupils.”

Caron Goreham- Work Placement coordinator- City College Norwich

“Our Level 2 Public Service students completed their volunteer training delivered by the team from the Open who were enthusiastic and engaging. The students enjoyed visiting Open to see the fantastic facilities and the volunteering opportunities available to them. They developed skills working with others and came away understanding the benefits of volunteering. This is valuable experience to add to their CV’s and will help them into employment in the future”
