Description

Willen Lake is Milton Keynes’ most popular park. Its sheltered waters and attractive parkland make it an ideal, safe location for schools and youth groups. Our friendly, experienced team can provide activities for small or large groups aged eight years upwards. Participants don’t need to be super fit or good swimmers, whatever their ability everyone can enjoy being part of the group experience - the focus is about trying new things, having fun, and learning things in a different environment to the norm.

• Kayaking
• Windsurfing
• Canoeing

The activities available at Willen Lake also offer students a raft of other personal benefits, such as the opportunity to:
• Improve communication skills
• Build teamwork
• Help with problem solving
• Boost self-esteem and confidence
• Bring out hidden strengths and talents

Do you have the LOtC Quality Badge or any other accreditation such as AALA?
As an activity provider we are regularly inspected by AALA (on behalf of HSE), the Royal Yachting Association and the British Canoe Union. We also hold the Quality Badge for the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom.

What does a typical educational visit include?
Generally, students undertake either full day visits (five hours between 10am and 3pm), or half day visits (morning or afternoon activities). We can also provide regular progressive sessions for schools to learn a sport within their PE or Games lessons, for example. Students typically participate in two activities in a full day and one activity in a half day. The activity days/half days generally focus on trying new activities and having fun. Regular sessions enable development of skills following syllabi set by National Governing Bodies, with certificates awarded where achieved. However, we can certainly adapt our offering to suit the needs of a particular group if required.

What group sizes do you cater for?
From groups of six upwards.

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?
No, however we do offer British Canoeing and Royal Yachting Association qualifications.

We have a shop at the watersports centre that sells drinks and souvenirs, and our training room is big enough to seat roughly 30 students. We are fortunate to be located in beautiful parkland, so there are lots of grassy areas for students to sit and relax on. Changing rooms are available on site with showers and toilets. For food, there is a restaurant and café at the lake.

What are your disabled facilities?
There are disabled access ramps and a disabled toilet. Disabled children can take part in some activities depending on their disability – contact us to discuss further.

The staff at Willen Lake have given our pupils a great introduction to sailing. The sessions have been fun, inspiring and educational. I would highly recommend sailing with the team at Willen Lake. Beechwood Park School, Hertfordshire.
