Why you are you a great place for educational visits?

We are the UK’s leading wetland conservation organization. Since 1946, over 2.2 million pupils have visited our wetlands sites. One of the UK’s leading providers of learning outside the classroom, learners become immersed in a unique environment, coming face to face with the unexpected, exploring wetland habitats hands-on.

What does a typical educational visit include?

An education visit package includes:

- A hands-on guided learning session outdoors offered to Early Years, KS1-4, A’ Level, University and/or Post-Graduate

- A full day’s entry to one of our wetland centres

- Access to our adventure play areas and shop

- Binocular hire, spotter sheets and maps

- Bag storage, lunch spaces and coach parking

 - Pre and post visit learning resources

- Safety information for risk assessments

- Free familiarization visits for group leaders

What group sizes do you cater for?

All sizes but maximum 90 pupils per day

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?

Yes, we are happy, as long as they have obtained consent.

Does your venue have an education officer?

Yes, our venue has key learning staff and volunteers. We have a Learning Manager, John McCullough, john.mccullough@wwt.org.uk, and learning officers. We also have a general education email at WWT Castle Espie, education.castleespie@wwt.org.uk.

Is specific clothing required for the trip?

We can adapt to the weather. However, we do ask every class to come prepared for all weathers as our visits are predominantly outside.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?

We have first aid on site but we recommend schools to bring a first aid kit and qualified first aider with them too.

What are your disabled facilities?

WWT Castle Espie is suitable for SEND groups and SEND individuals. We ask groups to let us know about SEND pupils when booking a trip in order for us to cater to their needs as best as possible.

What are your opening days and hours?

We're open from 10am everyday, 363 days a year, with seasonal closing times.
