Description

TasteBudds is a business founded by two brothers who provide healthy cookery workshops to children aged 5-18. During our workshops children cook one of our original healthy recipes, ranging from a build your own Pizza to Sweet Potato Fudge Brownies, and also learn about the nutritional benefits of the ingredients they use.

Children get to take home their own creations as well as the recipe to re-create at home with their family. Through fun and interactive activities children will learn about the fundamentals of nutrition and how maintaining a healthy diet can positively impact all aspects of their lives.

Please summarize why you are great to support learning.

TasteBudds strongly believes our workshops have a place in every school’s curriculum:

  • We are directly tackling the prevalent issue of childhood health and obesity by teaching children why it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • We teach them the fundamental kitchen skills needed to make all of our recipes.
  • We guide them through our recipes step by step, introducing them to new ingredients and explaining how these foods can be used in other delicious recipes.
  • We show them that eating healthily is not as daunting as they may think and that with just a few changes in their diet their learning, physical activities and their growth and development can improve drastically.
  • In our workshops children work in teams to learn the importance of teamwork, sharing and compromise within groups.
  • Although we take on recipes step by step we allow children the independence in to help each other through the tasks and be proud of the creation that is completely their own.

What does a typical school workshop visit include?

During a typical TasteBudds workshop:

  • Children will be guided step by step in their groups to create the recipe we have planned for them.
  • Children will delegate between them to make sure there is much sharing and inclusion as possible.
  • Everyone takes part in group discussions about why the ingredients we have used in that particular recipe are so healthy for them and why they may be a good substitution for other foods
  • Children then take part in a fun activity, quiz or game that covers the fundamentals of nutrition.
  • Children take home their creation to try for themselves as well as taking home the recipe to recreate the magic at home with their family!

What group sizes do you cater for?

During school workshops are a maximum of 30 students per workshop

After school workshops are tailored to provide children with more one on one experience so these are kept to a maximum of 20 students per workshop

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any other useful information?

We believe TasteBudds workshops are fantastic for supplementing work already covered by classes during Science or PSHE topics, providing activities that there just may not be time for during lessons.

We recognize that many schools are starting to incorporate health and nutrition modules during the school day and TasteBudds workshops would be a unique external tool to help out with this new curriculum.

By altering the skill required for the recipe, the difficulty of the educational activity, and the level of independence given to students we are able to tailor our workshops to each year group.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio if appropriate?

There are no restrictions for our workshops. If given permission, we also use pictures or video clips for our website and social media to give other schools more of an insight into what our workshops provide.

Are your team CRB checked for attending schools/colleges etc?

Our team is fully CRB checked, first aid trained and hold a level 3 food hygiene and safety certification.

Dear Matt and Joe

I am writing to tell you how much I have enjoyed the TasteBudds cookery lessons this term. Thank you for teaching us how to make healthy foods. My favourite was the Berry Muffins because they had lots of delicious taste. It was really fun cooking with you and I am going to try and make them myself at home with the recipe book you gave us. Please come back, you are the best chefs ever!!!  - Sophia Navvaro (Year 3 Student at Our Lady of Muswell Primary)

Dear Matt and Joe

We have all learnt so much and can't wait to recreate the recipes you taught us!

We enjoyed learning about the healthy ingredients used in each recipe and talking about other meals that could be made from the same ingredients.

I recommend the TasteBudds duo to work at your school as they were very polite and had a lovely manner with the children. They were extremely well organised and had everything prepared each lesson, from the range of ingredients to the food containers and the child safe cooking equipment.

Thanks again and you're welcome back to OLM anytime - Neri Yetkil (Year 3 Teacher at Our Lady of Muswell Primary)

“We love what you are doing it’s really interesting, we had no idea it would be this good.

Its really exciting what you are doing, the protein balls today and the drinks - we are blown away

They have so much fun and the recipes are really inspired!!!!!” - Bridget (TasteBudds after school workshop mum)

"My daughter has loved going to Tastebudds' workshops and has been so proud of the dishes she's brought home. She's even discovered a love of sweet potatoes. Thank you Tastebudds!" - Sarah (TasteBudds after school workshop mum)
