Exactly what does your venue offer to educational visits?

As well as being a leading visitor attraction, with over 450 species of animals, in a stunning garden setting, we’re also an award-winning conservation and education charity. This means we’re in a unique position to teach people about biodiversity, conservation and the natural world, making us an ideal destination for an educational school trip

We offer education sessions to groups from early years to degree level, including special needs and children’s club.

If you can’t make it to the Zoo for a school trip, but would still like your group to benefit from an education session, we are more than happy to come to you.

Bristol Zoo education sessions take place in themed classrooms in our brand new Conservation Education Centre. Most sessions are 55 minutes long and can include up to three live animals including tame reptiles, small mammals and invertebrates. All of our sessions are linked to the National Curriculum or specific syllabi. We also use items such as skins, furs, tusks and stuffed specimens, lots of these are confiscations from HM Revenue and Customs.

There is a maximum class size of 30 for students KS1-3, and 25 for KS4 and post 16 students. Education sessions are available between 9.30am and 5pm weekdays throughout the year. Our sessions are very popular, especially in the summer months, so you need to book well in advance.

You can request education sessions well in advance and we recommend at least four hours for your visit. If you’d like to visit on a particular day (especially in June or July), or are bringing a group of 100 or more, then please contact us as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment.

Once you’ve made a provisional booking, you can arrange your free teacher visit (for up to two teachers bringing staff ID from the school that the group visit is booked for).

We have health and safety guidance to help you complete your risk assessment. We can also provide information on your arrival at the zoo, where to eat your lunch, and lockers for storing lunchboxes and bags.
