What is your process for booking pre arranged risk assessments?
We recommend that at least one group leader who will be accompanying the group attend a pre-visit site tour, even for leaders that have made previous visits. This tour will confirm the standard of accommodation, site layout, level of service and enable risk assessments to be carried out.
YMCA Fairthorne Group works hard to ensure the health, safety and welfare of both individuals and groups visiting our sites, paying particular attention to the needs of children and young people and that government health and safety guidelines and legislation are adhered to and monitored by designated personnel.
To ensure that groups are aware of what to do in the event of a fire, a practice fire drill will be held on the day of your arrival. The roll call will be based upon the fire list that the group leader returned to us 4 weeks prior to arrival.
Further fire procedures will be given to you upon your arrival at Winchester House and the group leader will be asked to sign the Fire Log on behalf of the group to confirm they are satisfied with the procedures that are in place.
YMCA takes the security of all its premises very seriously and commits to doing everything within its power to ensure the security of all guests. The main front door and all wings of the House are fitted with key pad security locks, the codes for which are changed regularly and will be given to the group leader upon arrival. Adult leaders must wear their Winchester House pass at all times when on site. YMCA staff must be informed of any additional visitors to your group as soon as possible and visitors must report to reception to sign in prior to joining your group. If non-residential groups are using rooms on the ground floor during your stay, delegates on these courses can be identified by a YMCA ‘Day Delegate’ badge.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?
Group leaders are expected to treat any injuries that occur, so we recommended that groups bring their own first aid kits. In an emergency, a first aid box is available from outside the Young Carers’ Office on the ground floor.

Feedback from our customers is very important to us as we seek to improve the service we offer. Here are comments from some of our Isle of Wight guests:
“They get it” ! We felt so at home there and so well catered for. They understood our ever-changing needs and were so patient with things like wet beds and changed sleeping arrangements and weird and wonderful diets and we didn’t feel a nuisance at all. The food was good and well tailored to the children’s needs. When we got stuck indoors due to the weather for a couple of hours, they came and suggested we use some of the day camp play equipment. We awarded them our “Certificate of Awesomeness”. Education Destination
As always, the house was clean and inviting throughout, the children often referred to the house as ‘home’ during conversations, which speaks volumes for how they regarded their visit St Mary’s Catholic Primary
All of your staff were excellent and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves St Francis School
First rate food and excellent, friendly staff. The best hostel we’ve stayed in! Brighton & Hove Youth Philharmonia
