Exactly what does your venue offer to educational visits?

Rock Up is the perfect choice for providing a school trip that will see children come away having learnt new skills, tested their own abilities and grown hugely in confidence.

Rock Up is the new indoor climbing centre in Birmingham. Children get to climb a range of 26 brightly coloured and varied climbing walls, all towering 25 feet in the air.

Covering all levels of ability, there are over 70 different challenges to try, so there is always room for improvement. Climbers then use the auto belay device to gradually lower themselves to the ground when they decide they’ve reached their limit.

Suitable for all ages over 4, your pupils can challenge themselves to scale the Skyscraper, tackle the Twister or improve their ability on the timed Speed Climb.

Why you are you a great place for educational visits?

Most of our climbers come to try out a physical activity and give the kids a new challenge and experience. They all leave with a big smile on their faces and a huge sense of achievement.

Climbing is proven to have many benefits to individuals: not only does it get children physically active; it also requires problem solving and lateral thinking.  It is a brilliant activity to help build confidence; get children to challenge themselves and their own ability, learn new skills and feel/explore a range of emotions (fear, anticipation, excitement, elation) and how to deal with them. All of this takes place within a fun packed environment and experience they will remember for a long time.

What does a typical educational visit include?

A school visit includes a 1 ½ session. This is made up of a 30-minute safety briefing and harness fitting followed by 55 minutes climbing and 5 minutes for harness removal. Sessions can be tailored according to what specific schools want to get out of the session, although it is a physical learning activity.

What group sizes do you cater for?

The climbing arena can take up to approx. 30 pupils at any one time. However, briefing takes ½ hour so 60 pupils can come at one time and whilst one group is being briefed and climbing the other group can utilize the meeting room. They would then be briefed 1 hour after the first group.

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?

We provide Education Pack for KS1 & KS2 including lesson plans and worksheets.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?

Yes, children are welcome to take photos or video. There are no copyright issues.

What is your process for booking pre arranged risk assessments?

Yes. Our Risk Assessment, health and safety documents and public liability insurance are all available to download online from rock-up.co.uk. However, if you would like to conduct your own Risk Assessment, this can be booked in at the Centre on 0121 271 0322.

Does your venue have an education officer?

The best person to contact is Adam Thompson Centre Manager e-mail: Adam.Thompson@rock-up.co.uk.

What is the cost of the visit?

We offer a schools’ discount whereby for every 30 places booked, the school only pays for 20. During the week this amounts to £160 for 30 children (£5.30 per child).

Is specific clothing required for the trip?

Loose fitting clothes and closed toe shoes. Long hair should be tied back and no jewellery.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?

We have first aider on-site at all times and a first aid kit.

Please list facilities available.

We have a café onsite and there is pocket money merchandise available to purchase from £1 - £8. There are facilities available for schools to bring packed lunches.
