Springfield House – the NEW BLS English Residence for Students

Springfield House is a beautiful Victorian villa situated in a leafy road in the centre of the town 10 minutes from the school.  It was a former three star guesthouse and provides a high standard of accommodation for those students studying at BLS English who prefer self-catering accommodation.  Our friendly BLS English warden lives on site to welcome students on arrival, help them settle in and resolve any problems they may have whilst staying in the house.


Springfield House is fully furnished and comprises 12 bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom facilities.  There is a communal kitchen and a sitting/dining-room.  In addition there are large private gardens leading to the car parking area and the other BLS English residence, Spring Lane Cottage.  The property has individually controlled central heating in all rooms.  There is a wide range of room sizes to fit the budget of the student.  Every room has its own hand-basin, shower and WC.  Six of the rooms have en-suite facilities.  Each bedroom has its own radio alarm clock, tea and coffee making facilities.  There is WI-FI internet access throughout the building for students bringing their own laptops (Students may also use the WI-FI in the school).  The fully fitted kitchen is equipped with fridge / freezer, microwave oven, electric oven, toaster, kettle and washing machine (clothes).  The communal kitchen has a tumble-dryer, iron/ironing board and vacuum cleaner.  In addition there is a clothes-line in the courtyard.  The sitting/dining room has a TV and DVD with a library of films.  There are also board games and books.

Smoking is not permitted in any part of the building.

Fresh bed linen and towels are provided weekly.

The accommodation is cleaned throughout once a week but guests are expected to maintain a reasonable level of cleanliness.

Private parking is available (supplement payable).

Option of welcome food pack on arrival (supplement payable).

Springfield House is WI-FI (high-speed wireless internet access) enabled.  Students with WI-FI enabled notebook computers can access the internet and check their e-mails from anywhere in the building and in the garden. would allow you to use your portable computer to make cheap calls to friends and family back home.

Springfield House has an integrated fire alarm and smoke detection system and is protected at the front and rear by security cameras.


Students staying at Springfield House may join any of the General or Intensive group courses at BLS English.

In addition social afternoons and evenings can be arranged (e.g. cultural, traditional pub, football, trips to Cambridge and London etc.) accompanied by a native speaker.

Christmas Holidays

BLS English closes for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year.

Springfield House is available during this period for students wanting accommodation at the standard rates.

All students staying at Springfield House are BLS English students and therefore have access to all the facilities at the school and are welcome to join the social activities and club evenings.

Up to 50 people.

All our rooms have private bathrooms or en-suite.

The biggest room can sleep up to 8 people on bunk beds, but we also have private twin and single rooms. There is no air conditioning or TV sets in the rooms.

What is the cost of the accommodation?

The prices are: £50 per person per night with three meals a day, including packed lunch or £30 per person per night on self-catering basis all year round.

Do you provide risk assessments for the teachers?

Risk assessments can be requested additionally and the price will be given on request. Fire drills are done weekly.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?

We have a first aider at one of our sites at all times, a first aid kit on site and 24hrs emergency number.

We have a catering team, so all meals can be provided on request. There is a big dining room on site, TV and DVD lounge, we also have 3 classrooms for educational purposes. There is a well equipped kitchen for self-catering, patio area outside and garden with BBQ and garden furniture. Free WI-FI is provided in designated areas.

What are your disabled facilities?

There is one ground floor bedroom and most of the ground floor is wheelchair accessible, including a bathroom. Two higher floors are not wheelchair accessible.

What are your opening days and hours?

For bookings our office is open Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 17:00.
