One of Yorkshire's favourite attractions, Flamingo Land has everything you need for a fantastic day out. Climb aboard thrilling rides in the theme park or discover the amazing animals living within our zoo! We also have a range of shows and play areas available to use too! Choose to have a self led visit or enhance your visit by booking some activities with our education team.

Why you are you a great place for educational visits?

Flamingo Land has so much to offer and lots to explore. Our theme park can link in with science and the physics of rollercoasters, energy and forces. The zoo has a fantastic range of animals to supplement learning about animals, habitats, conservation and evolution. Our whole site in general can be used as a case study for business studies or leisure and tourism. There’s something for every age group from EYFS through to post-16 and community groups.

Do you have the LOtC Quality Badge or any other accreditation such as AALA?

We have a LOtC Quality Badge and a member of BALPPA

What does a typical educational visit include?

Meet a Creature

A real hands-on experience! Your group will have the chance to get up close and personal with some of our animals, including reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. This is a great choice if you have limited time available or are just coming for a fun day out! If you do have a particular topic in mind, many of our workshops also include live animals – please ask for details.

Sessions last around 30 minutes. We also offer extended sessions of 45 minutes to 1 hour which include artefacts such as skins, horns and bones.

Guided tours

Let your imagination run wild as our animals are introduced to your group by an experienced zoo educator. Having your own private tour guide ensures you get the most out of your visit!

A wide range of topics are avail¬able, as well as a more general tour if you don’t have a specific subject in mind. Please see our website for full details. Tours generally last for 1 hour and cover around half of the animals within the zoo. 2 hour tours can sometimes be delivered on request for KS2 and above.

Is specific clothing required for the trip?

Flamingo Land is predominantly an outdoor attraction so we advise suitable outdoor clothing, footwear, waterproofs, sun cream etc depending on the weather.

Do you have first aid on site or will the group need to bring a qualified first aider?

When visiting during the main season (March-November), we have a first aid centre open every day with several trained first aiders. When visiting in winter, we have other members of staff on site who are able to deliver first aid if required. As we are a large attraction, we advise groups to ensure they have their own first aider with them too.

Please list facilities available.

We have a variety of food outlets to suit different budgets, several gift shops and stalls throughout the park, there are also arcade machines and stalls, ride photo booths and play areas.

What are your disabled facilities?

Flamingo Land is mostly accessible for people in wheelchairs. The majority of our paths around the theme park and zoo are concrete or tarmac and with ramps. We have disabled toilets scattered throughout the park. The first aid centre (open March-November) also has a changing bed if needed.

What are your opening days and hours?

The whole park is open from 2 weeks prior to Easter until the end of the October half-term. From late November-March only the zoo is open. We open daily at 10am and close at 4pm/5pm/6pm/7pm depending on the time of year and the weather.

Do you have any testimonials from previous schools we can include?

The students reactions to the animals - they were all very considerate of the animals and very curious about them. We saw some real engagement in some very hard to engage students.

Lindsay who delivered our educational activity was very knowledgeable and fantastic with my Key Stage 1 class. The children enjoyed handling the animal artefacts and remembered what they had learned when we got back to school. This has enabled them to write fantastic factfiles.

It gave the children an opportunity to see a wide variety of animals and the tour was very informative and the children had the opportunity to ask questions. The workshop was great and reinforced the learning which had taken place in school. The children enjoyed the opportunity to hold or touch the different animals. Also coming at this time of year meant we were the only school going round the zoo.

I took the whole year group over two days and the children were very enthusiastic. They were eager to stroke/hold animals which they wouldn't normally have the opportunity to. They had so many questions to ask and staff were brilliant giving educational answers.

The fabulous tour we were given was suitable and informative covering the required subject topics, excellent delivery and knowledge from tour guides.

The organisation from the park staff - timings, meeting the school on arrival. The information provided via email before the trip was very good. We felt very organised and secure with what we were going to be doing throughout the day.

Is there anything else that you feel is important and want to include in your information?
