Exactly what does your venue offer to educational visits?

The Grand Pier offers a unique chance to explore one of the UK’s most exciting leisure attractions ¼ mile out to sea. Our educational visits allow students to understand the history associated to the Grand Pier right back to the Victorian Times. Students can learn via a fun and engaging talk in one of our conference rooms with plenty of props and a slideshow to aid the learning.

For the older age groups you can take advantage of one of our many ride packages ranging from 1 hour to unlimited available.

Why are you a great place for educational visits?

We are one of the largest indoor amusement parks in the UK so whatever the weather the entertainment can not be affected.

What does a typical educational visit include?

History of the Grand Pier – Suitable for key stage 1 & 2, will look at the following aspects with the pupils:

- Discover what the Grand Pier looked like in 1904 when it was first built, its traditions and who visited the seaside.

- Learn the timeline of the Grand Pier’s history, including the fire in 1930 and the more recent fire in 2008.

- Discuss the difficulties in the reconstruction of the Grand Pier in 2008 and why changes to attractions had to be made to keep in line with tourism demands.

Seaside Holidays past and Present – Suitable for Key stage 1 & 2, will look at the following aspects with the pupils:

- Explore the types of people that used to visit the seaside, where they came from and how they traveled to seaside destinations. Compare these forms of transport to the present day to see the similarities or differences.

- Learn about the Grand Pier as a seaside attraction that has stood in Weston-Super-Mare for over 100 years. Children will discover what the pier offered as an attraction when the rides had not been invented yet.

What group sizes do you cater for?

We can cater for groups ranging from 25 – 60. Any groups larger we could also accommodate.

Do you provide projects, teacher’s packs, work sheets or any useful information?

We do have a basic information sheet with a page worth of questions on there for the kids to complete after the talk using information located around the Pavilion building.

Are you happy for children to take photos, video or audio?

Happy for children and teachers to take any pictures they would like at the Grand Pier.

What is your process for booking pre arranged risk assessments?

We do not provide specific risk assessments for a booked school trip. All our events and packages are risk assessed but if schools wanted to carry out a risk assessment prior to their booking they can book this in via the events team.
