RockReef Activity Centre on Bournemouth Pier is an Indoor ‘all year all weather’ attraction that offers a wide range of challenging and fun activities for all ages and abilities.

We provide adventurous, fun and stimulating challenges, within a safe and controlled environment. These key factors are what make RockReef a great choice for schools and educational groups.

Our programmes are designed to fit with your learning outcomes for your group. Within our pre-visit meeting we will look to gain all details of your groups’ abilities, objectives and dynamics to create a bespoke experience, which contributes to achieving the required objectives within the academic programme.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

Typical Half Days – 9.30am – 12 noon / 12.30pm – 3.00pm* Typical Full Days – 9.30am – 3.30pm*

*Times and activities can be adjusted to each specific group.

Example programme:


Arrival & Briefing Participants will arrive and briefed on the plan of the day; aims, goals and expectations will be outlined.

9:30am – 10:15am

TTB Challenges Challenges will be ground based and designed to challenge the participant’s Communication, Trust and Team Working skills. The facilitators will use various techniques to highlight strengths and weaknesses and use an adaptation of Kolb’s learning cycle.

10:15am – 11:00am

Team Climbs Team climbs are designed to challenge participants at height and in an unfamiliar environment. This will focus on communication, trust and team working skills in a possibly stressful situation.

11:00am – 11:45am

Ropes Courses Participants will face individual & team challenges at height.

11:45am – 12:00am

Debrief and Share Successes The participants will be asked to discuss the successes, strengths and weaknesses of the team and individuals and ways to improve and build on them in the future. They will also be asked how they feel the challenges faced in the session can be transferable to other situations; most importantly back to the classroom.

Activities and timings can be tailored made to suit group.

What size groups do they cater for?

We cater for a group minimum of 10 people. We can cater for up to a maximum of 120 participants per hour, depending on tutor support and desired outcomes. Please discuss large groups with us in advance of booking.

Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?

We welcome individuals to take photographs and video that they wish to share.

How do you arrange a risk assessment?

Risk assessments are provided. Member of RockReef team can be contacted prior to the visit to go through all pre-visit requirements and information.

RockReef is an approved Centre with Hampshire Education Authority enabling teaching within the region to book knowing that all risk assessments and site visits have been checked conducted centrally by the Education Authority.

What does it cost?

The cost of the visit is dependent on the activity choice, group size and requirements. Prices start from £8 per person. Please enquire for further information on prices and activities.

Is specific clothing required?

We advise that comfortable clothing/sportswear, strong, sturdy closed-toe shoes/trainers are worn when participating in RockReef activities. No dresses/skirts or jewelry.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes, there will be a fully trained First aider present onsite at all times during activity.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

Coffee Reef café is located within RockReef Activity Centre serving hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, snacks and refreshments, with seating area for packed lunch. Catering packages can be arranged upon request. Drinks, snacks and souvenirs start from £1.

Are there disabled facilities?

As there are restrictions in the building, wheelchair users are asked to see our Disability Policy and contact us directly for more information. Facilities are accessible to a range of disabilities and it is very dependent on an individual’s abilities as to what each person can do and what assistance they may need to fully enjoy an activity. We can organize private sessions for disabled groups in discussion with you.

What are your opening days and hours?

During the autumn/winter months we are open for private bookings only daytimes throughout the week; open weekends (see website for exact times) and evenings (4pm - 7pm) for public sessions.

Is there anything else that you feel is important and want to include in your information?

We offer an after-school club ‘RockStars’ for children aged 6-15 years old. Each six-week course provides challenging fun, introducing young people to new skills and building self-confidence.

RockReef Adventure Sports Attraction provides fun and adventure for all ages. We can host birthday parties, corporate days and other events, as well as a great family day-out.
