Boulder Adventures is an activity company based in Llanberis, Snowdon’s village. North Wales is deemed the UKs adventure capital with Llanberis as one of the premier destinations. We provide adventures for many types of groups but our core work is week-long school trips staying in our residential centre.

The main attraction for many is climbing Snowdon, Wales and England’s highest mountain of which the summit can be seen from the drive way on a clear day.

We do of course provide many other activities such as: rock climbing, canoeing, gorge scrambling, raft building and coasteering and work with our customers to design an action packed stay.

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

If booked in at Boulder Adventures you will be the only group staying in the centre meaning you are provided with a safe and secure place to call home for your stay.

We have large woodland gardens for free time which also provide a feeling of privacy although we are only a 5 minute walk from the centre of Llanberis and its shops.

We can offer many activities during your stay but you could also incorporate many of the other local attractions into your visit. Within walking distance we have: The National Slate Museum, Electric Mountain and the Snowdon Mountain Railway. A course with us will be individually priced to suit your needs, considering the length of stay, whether you require catered or self-catered and your activity choices.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

Typically a visit to Boulder Adventures starts with arrival at Monday lunchtime. After a centre induction a quick walk to the water sports centre means we are ready for raft building on LLyn Padarn. After raft building back for dinner to refuel for an evening walk to see some of the sights. After breakfast on Tuesday pick up packed lunches then off for a full day of activities possibly gorge scrambling, rock climbing or coasteering. Your following days will be busy and action packed often including climbing Snowdon.

Plenty of groups use us as a base while taking part in their Duke of Edinburgh expedition normally doing one activity with us at the end. Others come away for just a weekend and some of the closer primary schools may just choose two nights away but we want to discuss what will suit the needs of the group.

How do you arrange a risk assessment?

All of our instructors have up to date first aid qualifications and carry first aid kits and other safety equipment while with groups.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

The centre is in a private secluded setting above Llanberis. We have plenty of parking with enough space for minibuses. There are large gardens around the centre.

Within the centre there are seven bedrooms, for up to 35 guests, of varying sizes to suit different group breakdowns and provide separate staff rooms. We have a comfy large, homely dining room, large kitchen, modern shower facilities, and a good drying room for wet kit.

For groups that require it we also have classroom in the grounds of the centre. Additional facilities include our water sports centre within walking distance at the lakeside. It is only a 5 minute walk to the village High Street and local shops for extra supplies.

Are there disabled facilities?

Please be aware that not everything we do is suitable for everyone, if there is anyone in your group with specific needs please discuss these in advance. We will always do our best to be as inclusive as possible but due to working in mountainous environments suitable opportunities for participation can be limited. The centre has some basic facilities but is not fully assessable.

What are your opening days and hours?

Activities and stays need to be pre booked and we operate year round.

Do you have any testimonials from previous customers who have visited you on an educational visit?

“I have just returned from a residential weekend with a school group of 22 students and from start to finish the service we received was outstanding! The rooms are comfortable whilst still remaining practical. The food was possibly the best I've tasted on a residential trip. The instructors were great with the kids & catered to our every need. The activities were action packed, adrenaline filled & thoroughly enjoyable. Already planning my next Year 11 trip!!!”
