This October, thousands of children from the UK will be taking part in International Walk to School Month 2009. A worldwide celebration, over 40 countries will be promoting the benefits of walking to school, through events and activities held throughout the month. This year’s theme is ‘Count me in’, to help encourage primary school children to think about both, their journey to school and the amount of physical activity they do during the day. The national Walk to School campaign is run by the charity Living Streets, who work to promote safe and enjoyable journeys to school for children, parents and teachers up and down the country. To get involved with Walk to School Month, you can access teacher’s resources from the website. The free resources pack includes help with planning your Walk to School events and useful presentations for assemblies.
