Museums Sheffield: Graves Gallery from its art deco frontage, to the polished brass bannisters and golden oak floors, Graves Gallery is a wonderfullyly classic art gallery experience. Appearances can be deceptive though – yes, the Graves is home to the city’s historic fine art collection, but it is also a showcase for contemporary art of every description, while the ongoing refurbishment programme is breathing new life and colour into the Gallery. Alongside our core offer of workshops to primary and secondary schools based upon the needs of the national curriculum and our own collections, we organize INSET events for teachers to accompany our special exhibitions along with exclusive teacher preview evenings Museums Sheffield sites offer creative and stimulating environments for learning away from the classroom. Our collections and exhibitions provide a unique resource and are a source of excitement and wonder for children. The Museums Sheffield schools’ offer has been carefully crafted over many years by our experienced learning team, many of whom began their careers as teachers, whilst our trained enablers are always on hand to inject fun and life into workshops and sessions. A schools visit to a Museums Sheffield site will have lasting value and we are proud of the high level of repeat visitors amongst schools in the city. What does a typical school trip or educational visit include? Museums Sheffield offer a range of options to suit individual primary and secondary schools’ needs. Different hands-on workshops at each site cater for the following curriculum topics:
• Art & Design In addition, a rolling programme of unique workshops accompanies our changing exhibitions programme. Workshops are not on pre-determined dates and can be booked to suit your school’s diary. To ensure schools have the best possible experience, the maximum group size we cater for is 32 pupils. We also recommend that a minimum of one adult accompanies every six pupils visiting. What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit? All workshops and sites have accompanying trails, teacher’s notes and ideas for pre and post visit activities, developed by our experienced learning team and downloadable from www.museums-sheffield.org.uk.
