Our residential Adventure Centre in the Cairngorms National Park is an excellent venue, with superb facilities and a team of dedicated, caring & friendly staff. Our range of outdoor activities is impressive, with seasonal options on dry land, on water and on snow. Abernethy Nethybridge is owned and operated by Abernethy Trust Ltd, which runs four Christian adventure centres in Scotland. Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits? There are many reasons to come to Abernethy! In summary, we have a great Team, beautiful surroundings, outstanding facilities and an extensive range of enjoyable & educational activities. We offer excellent value as we are a registered charity. Our Team is our biggest asset. We are regularly told that our instructors are supernaturally patient & caring, with safety as their top priority. We offer excellent hospitality with comfortable accommodation and tasty home-cooked meals. Our facilities also are of an unusually high standard. We have comfortable lounges, a theatre lounge, an indoor swimming pool, sports hall, games room, tennis court, and 25 acres of beautiful Highland estate for your pupils to explore & enjoy. Activity programmes are designed to be challenging, enjoyable and educational. They often promote teamwork and communication skills. Our evening sessions are designed to be a fun and interactive ‘thought for the day’, and are a lively mix of drama, songs, quizzes, stories and fun with a moral teaching point which is relevant for pupils and ties in to the curriculum. What does a typical school trip or educational visit include? We tailor-make programmes to suit your individual needs and requirements. However, our typical visits include the following: Monday-Friday (4 nights) residential package for schools. 4 nights accommodation, meals, 4 days instructed multi-activity programme, evening programme, use of sports facilities, supervised use of swimming pool. We also run activity weekends and non-residential adventure days for schools – these are especially popular with secondary schools looking for a fun teambuilding day or weekend for pupils. Activities include: Archery, team challenges, raft-building, zip wire, climbing, abseiling, orienteering, forest adventure nature day and canoeing. Note that we specialise in winter ski weeks for schools as well between January & March. SAMPLE DAY PROGRAMME
0745hrs - Wake up call What size groups do they cater for? Any size of group from 6-85. We are equipped to take several smaller groups simultaneously if need be. What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit? Our courses are practical & experiential, so we do not require pupils to carry out any written exercises. Teachers often encourage pupils to complete a diary each evening to reflect upon their experiences. We can provide ‘free time’ resources and ideas for teachers – these can include treasure hunts, team games etc. Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copy write restrictions? We are happy for children to use cameras & video cameras if they wish, providing it does interfere with an activity and cause unnecessary distraction. There are no copyright restrictions. However, we discourage pupils from bringing expensive cameras or valuable electronic equipment to Abernethy. Visiting leaders should be aware of their own school’s policy on photography. How do you arrange a risk assessment? We understand that organising a school trip is demanding, and that health and safety has to be a primary concern. We are an AALS (Adventure Activities Licensing Service) approved adventure Centre, and this proves that our adventure activities have been risk assessed and are run safely. A current copy of our AALS licence can easily be sent to schools prior to their visit. We also have a downloadable safety document ‘Safety Standards in outdoor Activities’ on our website which outlines our safety policies. We welcome any teachers or leaders who wish to make a pre-trip visit to the Centre – please just contact us to book an appointment. We work closely with local education authorities to ensure that our safety policies meet the required standards. What are the contact details for their education officer? Our chief instructor is responsible for all adventure activity programming. The person to contact with general enquiries is the Operations Director – David Rutledge. Telephone: 01479 821279. Email: nethybridge@abernethy.org.uk What does it cost? As a not for profit organisation, we are able to offer low prices on all our holidays and courses.
