Our main building is a ‘B’ listed ex-hunting lodge overlooking the River Isla, a tributary of the mighty River Tay, and is able to cater for groups of 10 – 60. We open only to pre-booked groups at any time of the year [except Christmas] and tailor courses for the novice to the more advanced for children from 9 years upwards. Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits? We offer one fully equipped classroom and one outdoor classroom for a wide ranging variety of programmes. Our policy since opening in 2001 is only ONE residential group at any one time, thus ensuring extra safety for school pupils and teachers. We provide educational and challenging activities for youths and adults which are both fun and enjoyable in a safe environment. What does a typical school trip or educational visit include? Most of our schools and colleges opt for outdoor activities such as Team Building Challenges, Wall & Tree Climb, Trail Cycling, Archery, Hill Walking and Water Sports (AALA licensed). However, we also offer map reading, orienteering, survival, nature rambles and bird watching at RSPB hides. What size groups do they cater for? • Groups from 10 – 60, although most residential groups (i.e. accommodation and activities). • number from 20 – 50. • Activity days only can be up to 70. What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit? • Outdoor Education can enhance learning in the key stages. • Group visits can be tailored to meet the individual needs of the group. • We have a large stock of maps, compasses, binoculars, torches, worksheets and booklets. Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copy write restrictions? Appropriate videos, audio and photographs are acceptable. How do you arrange a risk assessment? The Centre is approved by AALA (Adventurous Activities Licensing Service) to operate kayaking, canoeing & raft building. All other activities are risk assessed - Many of the risks are covered on our website http://www.highlandadventure.co.uk We have several agency agreements with Councils in the local areas, but we are able to post a risk assessment package to interested schools. Teachers are very welcome to make an appointment to visit at a mutually convenient time – please contact Susan on number above. What are the contact details for their education officer? Jim Muir is a GTC Registered Teacher and is the designated Education Officer (for activities and projects). What does it cost? • With every 10 paying pupils one member of staff comes FREE, on the provisio that they supervise behaviour and welfare out with timetabled instructed activities. • For large groups, discounts are dependent on numbers and length of stay. • Please contact Susan at the number above for the latest prices. Is specific clothing required? • For activity days a waterproof jacket is advised & suitable outdoor clothing. • Specialist equipment such as buoyancy aids are provided. • For residential stays a suggested kit list is sent to teachers / leaders. Do you have first aid on site? All staff and instructors have first aid qualifications, but a teacher with a good knowledge of pupils’ conditions and / or medication would be an advantage. What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits? • Dining room for 60. Full board accommodation is provided. • Also outdoor tables and benches for packed lunches on warm, sunny days in picnic area & for non residential activity days. • Outdoor Sports court for 5 aside football etc. • Small kiosk for essential items. • Games room with free play pool tables, table tennis & table soccer. • Large round meeting room with log fire, dvd’s & karaoke player. • Quiet lounge [withdrawal] for teachers / staff. • Drying room. • 2 classrooms (1 indoor & 1 outdoor). • Car parking facilities. Are there disabled facilities? Because of the ‘listed’ status and activities on offer, pupils with reduced mobility will find it difficult especially if confined to wheelchairs.
