Bring your class to the Geffrye, one of London's most friendly and enjoyable museums, and explore the wealth of historical and cultural influences which have affected urban middle-class living rooms and gardens for the past 400 years. Education is a top priority at the Geffrye, and our small scale and direct approach make us very accessible for school groups of all types and sizes. Group sizes: We can accommodate schools groups of up to 30 per session and up to nine sessions per day. Age ranges: The Geffrye has formal learning programmes suitable for 4 -18 year olds.(Reception - KS 5)
Additional Information: • Teachers are welcome to conduct a pre-visit where a risk assessment can be completed. We provide a generic risk assessment upon request. • Please contact the Bookings Officer in the first instance; The Teaching staff are happy to discuss the individual requirements of groups. • Visits for school groups are free of charge.
• There is a £ 15 charge for INSET (when required) for which your school will be invoiced. • The Geffrye Museum always has a member of staff trained in first aid on site. First aid kits are distributed throughout the museum. • Due to the size and nature of the venue we are not able to allow school groups to wander independently.
• We have three art rooms and space for coats and packed lunches. Primary Sessions: For Reception and KS I pupils we offer our popular Homes Then and Now session and a variety of stories specially commissioned by the Geffrye. KS 2 sessions are designed to address key programmes of study on the Tudors, Victorians and Twentieth Century in the History curriculum, and Chairs and Containers in Art and Design. Our professional team also offer bespoke sessions for special projects and other curriculum areas upon request. We welcome pupils of all abilities. Secondary Sessions: Snapshot 1900, History at key stage 3 20th Century Design; materials, textiles and style - Design & Technology KS 3 &4. 20th Century Design Styles - sketchbook and portfolio building - Art & Design KS 4 and post -16.

The Geffrye Museum welcomes pupils from special schools of all ages and abilities. Sessions for pupils with Special Educational Needs aim to encourage communication and cognitive skills and develop auditory and visual memory. • Toilets, including two accessible toilets - on site. • The shop is open although schools are asked to enter in small groups. Schools 'goody bags' can be pre-ordered. • Schools booking the 11.30 sessions will be allocated a lunchroom.
