School Trip & Group Educational Information

Bolton Castle – A stunning mediaeval fortress, built in 1399 and preserved in outstanding condition, situated at the heart of Wensleydale inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The castle and it’s inhabitants played an important part in both regional and national politics throughout the middle ages. Notably, it was held for the King and besieged during the Civil War and Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned here.

We are able to lay on special events for school groups and children’s parties. We can provide mediaeval costumes, a banquet, guided tours and a range of activities including: candle dipping, spear drill, pomander making, fire lighting with flint and steel and calligraphy.

The activity day is, we believe, a unique opportunity for children to live as their ancestors would have done in a six hundred year old castle.

We are open to school and group visits all year round please contact number above for further information.
