School Trip & Group Educational Information

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

AALA licensed residential for school and college groups – curriculum enrichment & extension.

The Canadian themed Pioneer Centre and the parent company/charity Action Centres UK/NAYC (Reg Charity no. 803431) have a combined experience of over 55 years in looking after and developing young people.  You are assured a rewarding experience whether you bring a class of 24 or a complete year group of 250.

“Do the same as you’ve always done and you’ll get what you always got!”

Come to Pioneer Centre and get something new and different.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

In 2005 the £2 million development of the Centre took facilities for school and college residentials in the UK to new heights.  Purpose built and specially designed, no effort has been spared to provide a superb standard of accommodation and instructed adventure activities, all on the 25 acre site.  There really is nothing else like this in the UK!

But don’t take our word for it… http://www.actioncentres.co.uk/pioneer-centre/video.htm and watch our testimonial videos.

With nearly 30 different instructed activities to choose from, your programme can, if you wish, be a little out of the ordinary.  Our instructors are trained to bring out the best in the group & the individual.  We aim to develop those taking part, so the whole activity is a positive experience.

Beautifully situated in a rural location next to the Wyre Forest and overlooked by the Clee Hills, the site is secure and is away from external distractions but easily accessible  by A-roads and only 40 minutes from the Midlands motorway network.

What size groups do they cater for?

12 to 300 guests.

Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copy write restrictions?

Yes we are happy and have no copy write restrictions.  Each group needs to consider their own photographic permission policy however.

How do you arrange a risk assessment?

Teachers and group leaders are actively encouraged to make an assessment visit prior to their stay.  Risk assessments are freely available upon request for all instructed activities run by the Centre.

What are the contact details for their education officer?

Activities Manager – Graham Hughes

What does it cost?

School, college and university groups receive one *free place for every 10 paying people.
Individual youth clubs are allowed one *free for every 14 paying people
(*accommodation only and is not applicable to instructed activities).

2009 accommodation rates from (+ vat and per person):
Weekend - £55.65
Two nights midweek - £39.00
Mon – Fri - £68.70
Fri – Fri - £107.15

Is specific clothing required?

No, a kit list is available however.

Do you have first aid on site?

1 day Appointed Person and 4 day Health & Safety at Work qualified staff are available across all departments at the Centre.  NB - Local Authorities normally require their groups to have at least one accompanying leader to be a qualified first aider.

What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?

Two gift/tuck shops and large and comfortable dining room (for residential guest use) on site.  There is no reason for the young people to bring more than £5 or £10 pocket money for a 2 night stay.  For day groups bringing their own packed lunch a venue can be made available.

Are there disabled facilities?

We are a youth organisation and thus everything we do has their needs as a priority.

The majority of bedrooms are on ground floor level with meeting rooms and venues wheelchair accessible.  The Centre has 10 en-suite bedrooms specifically built to accommodate guests in wheelchairs where the shower rooms are wet room style using the Pressalit system for seats, hand and grab rails.  These rooms also have emergency alarm pull cords installed.
