Our Museum is based in a former Victorian School so we have the use of an original Victorian classroom, making the setting atmospheric and real. What does a typical school trip or educational visit include? A typical day’s visit consists of an hour Role Play Session in the classroom followed by an object handling activity in our Education Room. We provide Activity Sheets for photocopying and of course, there is the Museum Shop – not to be missed from any school trip! These sessions are suitable for Key Stages 1 & 2. What size groups do they cater for? One to Three classes i.e 30-90 children. What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit? Teachers Packs are available on request and Activity Sheets are provided for photocopying if required. Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions? We do not allow any video or photographs to be taken during the Role Play lessons in order to keep it authentic. How do you arrange a risk assessment? We provide a basic Risk assessment but welcome Teachers coming along to do their own assessment prior to visiting. What are the contact details for their education officer? Lesley Killin Contact Tel 01376 325266 What does it cost? The cost per child is £5.00 for a Role Play visit, teachers and helpers are free up to 4 per class. A visit to the Museum without Role Play is £2 per child. Is specific clothing required? We ask that our visitors dress up for the occasion in either Victorian or Evacuee costume. Do you have first aid on site? There are two qualified First Aiders on site. What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits? We have indoor and outdoor eating facilities and an adjoining café. We have a large education room and a well stocked gift shop with plenty of pocket money priced gifts. Are there disabled facilities? We have full disabled access. What are your opening days and hours? Our opening hours are now 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday and we are closed Bank Holidays.
