This is our last newsletter of the school year and the chances are you are just about to break up for a fantastic long summer holiday. I am very jealous.

I know from our research that it’s not all just relaxing in the sun (unfortunately) and many of you use the break to plan for September. We sincerely hope our Search School trip Venues helps you cut down the time you used to spend finding that perfect venue and makes it quick and easy for you. Not only can you search to your exact criteria all of the venues we recommend offer full information on exactly how they can help with learning outside the classroom and what facilities are available for your groups. We have added a lot of new venues over the last month and you can see a taste of these below; please scroll down the section relevant to where you want to visit.

NATIONWIDE

Xtreme Vortex – mobile activity company
Typically their equipment such as the mobile rock climbing wall and mobile laser tag can be used for PE, personal/social development, health education, team work, team building, social interaction, motivation, problem solving and citizenship, just to name a few.

Learning on Location - Butlins Skegness&Butlins Bognor Regis
The only week long residential course specifically developed for Year 8 students based entirely on core curriculum requirements. Taking over the whole resort of Butlins Skegness (3-7 Nov 2008) and Butlins Bognor Regis (17-21 Nov 2008) for the duration.

Skirmish Paintballing – Various venues nationwide
Have you thought of Paint balling? It is proving a more and more popular as a school trip idea. It’s the perfect weather for it. Paintballing is exhilarating fun and great for developing team building skills.

LONDON

Britain at War Museum – London Bridge
The closest possible insight into what life was really like for ordinary civilians in Britain during the Second World War. Learn about food & clothes rationing, evacuation, women at war, wartime weddings, gasmasks, bomb disposal and the blackout.

Little Angel Theatre – Islington
A truly unique venue, the only place to visit in London devoted to puppetry theatre. Puppetry is a recurring theme on the National Curriculum, and they are leaders in the field working with the most knowledgeable puppeteers to creating inspiring shows.

SCOTLAND

Kelburn Castle and Country Centre – Ayrshire
They are launching a dynamic educational programme for schools with a ‘Forest School’ in partnership with Forestry Commission Scotland which is in line with the Government Manifesto ‘Learning Outside the Classroom’.

NORTH EAST

Gibside Eco Centre – Newcastle-upon- Tyne
They are based in a Georgian stable block in the historic Gibside estate. Gibside is cared for by the National Trust and is an 18th century landscaped ‘forest garden’. You are surrounded by 400 acres of woodland, fields and riverside, all of which can be explored.

Blackton Grange – County Durham
“Great welcome, amazing venue, incredible location” – typical feedback from Blackton Grange visitors. If you’re looking for a base venue from which to run an educational visit, programme or event, then this traditional stone built farmhouse is perfect!

NORTH WEST

Palace Theatre Manchester
A fascinating place – not only does it stage an exciting range of performances suitable for all ages, such as musicals, literature-based plays, ballet and opera, but its history and architecture are also worth exploring. Backstage tours and workshops are also available.

Opera House Manchester
Workshops exploring careers in theatre for Key Stage 3 & 4, or the opportunity to learn about our ghost for Key Stage 2. Backstage Tours and creative workshops are available to all Key Stages. They offer longer term projects and matinee or evening performances.

YORKSHIRE & HUMBERSIDE

Millennium Gallery - Sheffield
One of modern Sheffield’s landmark public spaces. As well as being home to the city’s unique Ruskin and metalwork collections, Millennium Gallery hosts some of the finest touring exhibitions in the country, from partners such as: V&A, and Tate.

Bishops House – Sheffield
Over 500 years old, a living, breathing time capsule, where history seeps out of every wall and soot-stained fireplace. Workshops focus on the rich and poor in Tudor times. All workshops are led by costumed history educators who deliver them in role.

 

Graves Art Gallery - Sheffield
Museums Sheffield sites offer creative and stimulating environments for learning away from the classroom. The collections and exhibitions provide a unique resource and are a source of excitement and wonder for children.

Weston Park Museum – Sheffield
This venue will surpass all expectations. Discover the real story of Sheffield, from its geological roots to the people, politics and music that shaped the modern city. Schools can enjoy led workshops and self-guided trails linked to National Curriculum units.

High Adventure Outdoors – Cowling
Sleeping accommodation for up to 95 people at a purpose-built centre featuring an indoor climbing wall, high ropes course, archery range, low ropes course, bouldering wall, the labyrinth, canoeing & raft building close by, mountain, orienteering course and more.

The Treasure House – Beverley
Self-assisted Visits – Pre-booked school and non-school groups can make independent use of the facilities available, free of charge. This is an exciting, new, heritage development. Visitors can access a range of material about East Riding of Yorkshire.

The Saltburn Smugglers Heritage CentreSaltburn by the Sea
Discover the many secrets of the ‘King of the Smugglers’ and the hidden contraband stolen from under the noses of the Excise men. Re-live the excitement and danger of those bloodthirsty nights with the sights, sounds and smells of the past.

The Old School House – Whitby
B&B or Full-board accommodation and sole use for self-programming school groups. The surrounding area is ideal for art, geography, geology, history, English and study skills. They have great contact for specialists who will work with school groups.

 

WEST MIDLANDS

Top Barn Activity Centre – Worcester

Redpoint Climbing Centre – Birmingham
A stimulating alternative to conventional school sports, which helps to fulfill National Curriculum requirements. As an adventure activity, it quickly captures students’ interest, while raising self esteem, building confidence and helping them to develop teamwork.

Royal Air Force Museum – Cosford
The Museum uses its unique and fascinating collections to produce a programme of activities. The National Cold War Exhibition have purpose built classrooms, which allows lessons to be broadcast live over the web in real time.

EAST MIDLANDS

Hardys Animal Farm – Skegness
Set within 7 acres of countryside, and yet only a short walk to the sandy beach of Ingoldmells, a true modern day working farm offering a great day out meeting and feeding animal friends whilst learning about the caring and the rearing of them.

EAST ENGLAND

Dragon Hall - Norfolk
Uniquely placed to offer educational trips with a difference. Its location, architecture and independent status make a visit memorable, creative and exciting. Fun and informative with an emphasis on learning through practical activities and applied knowledge.

Searles Sea Tours – Norfolk
A superb area for wildlife and one of extreme importance for Migrating Birds as well as native species. Also home to the largest colony of Common Seals in the world up to 500 Seals can be seen resting on the sand banks and swimming around the boat.

Norwich Theatre Royal – Norfolk
Presenting a high quality mix of; drama, dance, opera, musicals and shows. Regular visiting companies include the Royal Shakespeare Company, Northern Ballet Theatre, Glyndebourne Opera, Rambert Dance Company and Richard Alston Dance Company.

SOUTH WEST

Longleat Safari Park – Wiltshire
Featuring a host of amazing attractions many of which have been featured within the BBC ‘Animal Park’ series. Free educational talks are available to groups of 12+, they include KS3 & KS4 talks, species specific talks or other talks tailor made for you.

Roman Baths – Bath
One of the finest thermal spas of the ancient world, built 2000 years ago around the country’s only hot springs. Fine Roman museum, Audio guides and computer animations bring the experience to life. Costumed characters appear every afternoon 1.30-4.30pm.

Fashion Museum – Bath
Over 100 figures and 100 fashion objects on display include: womenswear, underwear and menswear from the 18th century to present day. Fashions by important British designers of 1970s & 1980s. Plus a chance try on replicas of corsets and crinolines.

Victoria Art Gallery – Bath
A free facility open all year round. The Gallery houses Bath & North East Somerset's collection of paintings, sculpture and decorative arts. Temporary exhibitions are held throughout the year, and the schools education programme is linked to them.

SOUTH EAST

Fort Fun & Rockies Indoor Adventure Land – Eastbourne
Fort Fun Amusement park offers action packed rides for all ages and an 18 hole crazy golf. Rockys soft play area is indoor fun for all ages bounce bump bash your way through the biggest soft play area for miles 3,500 square feet of indoor soft play.

Liberty’s Raptor & Reptile Centre – Ringwood
Home to a large collection of birds of prey including eagles, owls, hawks and vultures. Also a number of reptiles and other creepy crawlies, such as snakes, lizards and spiders in our indoor reptile house. Enjoy a visit that is fun, exciting and educational for all ages.
