Introduction for school trips and educational visits

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?
We believe that we have one of the world’s best learning environments – 160 acres of highly accessible parkland, over 260 species of animal and outstanding gardens.
As well as a safe, exciting place for a school visit, we offer a range of talks and tours. Where possible, we get the children out of the classroom and into the Park – usually standing next to the animals they are learning about. Our talks are age appropriate, are linked to the national curriculum and can be about most of our animals and plants.
What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?
For younger visitors we offer:
• Caring for animals sessions in the Children’s Farmyard
• Talks about plants
• Touch Table
We also do talks on:
• Rainforests
• Classification
• Conservation and endangered species
• Animal senses
• Reptiles
And for KS3/4/Sixth Form and FE/HE we offer:
• Enclosure Design and Conservation workshops
• BTEC Animal Management course imput
• Science in the workplace
We also offer bespoke talks and tours for all age groups.

What size groups do they cater for?
We can cater for groups of any size! However educational talks and tours we cater for groups up to 30, to get the most out of the talk/tour.
What can they provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit?
Not freely available. However, we are happy to work with the teachers before they come to produce material suitable for their pupils.
Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?
Yes happy for children to take photos, video and audio.
How do you arrange a risk assessment?
The Park provides a list of those risks we believe teachers should take into account when planning their own risk assessment. Teachers who have already made a booking for an educational group may visit the Park by prior arrangement to carry out their own risk assessment. (Must give 5 working days notice).

What does it cost?
The charge for pupils is £7.00 each. Adults are free on a ratio of 1:5 pupils. The charge for additional adults is £10 per head.
We charge £20 for each of our talks and tours between March 1st and August 31st. In the Autumn and Spring we give these talks for free.
Is specific clothing required?
Appropriate outdoor clothing for weather conditions.
Do you have first aid on site?
The Park has a first aid room in the Manor house and many of the staff hold first aid qualifications.
What facilities do they have for school trips and educational visits?
• Train (runs Apr-Oct)
• Adventure Playground
• Gift Shop - we can provide goody bags for school groups at whatever cost the school wants.
• Café
• Lots of picnic lawns and benches (some undercover). Packed lunches can be eaten in the café between Sept1st and March 31st.
• Brass Rubbing Room (need to pre-book)
• Free Parking for Coaches on hard standing.
• Classrooms available to hire
Are there disabled facilities?
The Park is on a level site and is Wheelchair friendly with disabled toilets. All public areas of the Park are accessible to the disabled, with the exception of 2 out of 3 of our classrooms.
What are your opening days and hours?
Open daily at 10am (except Christmas Day).
Do you have any testimonials from previous customers who have visited you on an educational visit?
We had a great talk, at just the right level for the children, very interesting and informative. The children were full of facts on our return to school. Thank you.

It was very good and a super introduction to classification. The children all enjoyed the talk and learned a lot.

St Michael’s Primary School
The children loved seeing all the different animals and being able to get so close, especially in the farmyard and walkthrough areas. The Keeper talk for both groups was also excellent and at the perfect level of understanding and interest for the children.

We have 25,000 school visitors each year. Almost all return year on year.
