Introduction for school trips and educational visits
This venue has LOtC quality Badge
Conway Centres: Anglesey is a large local authority backed centre sited on the island of Anglesey and set within 169 acres of National Trust parkland. The centre enjoys a magnificent setting on the Menai Strait. It offers quick and easy access to the Snowdonia National Park and rugged cliffs and wide sandy beaches of the island’s coast line. The centre is within 4 miles of the city of Bangor and has excellent access via the A55. It is set within private grounds and has an extensive security system in place.
We provide educational courses in the Performing and Visual Arts, Cross Curricular subjects, Outdoor Education and Field Studies. We have a wide range of customers, both in terms of where they come from and with respect to their age range (6 years to adult). We are equally happy working with primary, secondary, further education and higher education groups.
Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?
Our unique selling point is that our sessions are delivered by highly qualified and experienced teachers who have many years experience in education, from a variety of different perspectives. We are committed to developing the individual and inspiring students to learn.
We are highly experienced in working with colleagues in schools and developing programmes which meet the educational needs of their students. We are familiar with the school context and have experience of delivering educational initiatives eg.. SEAL, Mind Friendly Learning etc.
What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?
We have a variety of packages with regard to outdoor education and negotiate different options with groups prior to their visit. We offer a range of focused courses including National Governing Body Awards in relation to Outdoor Activities, GCSE weekends in Dance, Drama and Visual Art; A Level Drama, Multi-Cultural Arts courses, Primary and Secondary Arts weeks. We are also able to offer a progressive range of courses in collaboration with our four sister centres based in Cheshire; along with the ability to offer a range of day course activities.
What size groups do they cater for?
Conway Centres: Anglesey has a total of 420 beds split between a large dormitory block and 4 independent buildings which will hold either 17, 32, 40 and 49 students plus their attendant staff. Within the main accommodation block groups can be on different floors and also occupy different types of rooms (10 bed dormitories to single rooms). All staff accommodation is in single rooms, many of which are en suite, and are located adjacent to the student’s accommodation.
We can cater for both large and small groups, and as a consequence of the lay out of accommodation can have a variety of different users working sympathetically alongside one another. A selling point is that we can also accommodate a whole year group from a secondary school which means that we are a suitable venue for Year 6, 7 and 12 inductions.
Please Provide information regarding room sizes and room facilities?
Room sizes vary on site from between 10 beds and one bed. There are en suite bathrooms in one building for the students, and several more areas that are en suite for the staff. With the exception of a couple of rooms all beds are single with all bedding provided by us. Each student has a locker adjacent to their bed and staff rooms also have storage space built in.
How do you arrange a risk assessment?
We encourage group leaders to come to the centre prior to their visit and risk assess the activities that they will be running by themselves. Teachers simply need to notify us of their intent to visit and we would take it also as an opportunity to discuss their programme face to face.
If we are delivering the teaching the students are covered by our risk assessments, our risk management summary can be viewed on our web site at www.conwaycentres.co.uk. Because we are a Learning Outside the classroom badged organisation, all risk assessments for our activities have already been inspected.
What are the contact details for their education officer?
